I'm getting better

I have been a real donk at nlhe but have followed a few simple rules to improve my play - maybe they can help soemone.

First, it's all about your hole cards, raise your standards to get invovled in the hand, especially on a full table. Second, it's about position, babay, even with a decent starting hand, if many others bet first, even pairing the flop seems small.....these two things have helped me tons, hope they help you.

Yep I agree...I've been playing for over a month now on PS and once I started to finally play tight and use position...I was able to beat the $1 tourneys and now I am in the money a lot on the $3 45 man tourneys as well.....Its only a start but has been a fun learning experience....

you are right...ty....I got caught out there recently with 99 against KK...I went all in early position 9 handed because I had been running so well....I still recovered...but as you said...it pays to get some info. on what everyone else is doing in early position full table if you dont have high pocket pairs at least...

I've not got much experience but I have found that playing tight works best for me. That is not playing out of early position unless I have a Group 1 hand and limping in middle position with drawing hands raising with Group 1-3. In late position I find I can play a lot of hands if no one raises ahead of me. Just don't play trash hands hoping for luck. You get it sometimes but mostly not.

yeah that's also what most books I have read tell me. I am a beginner and I started with the research on how to be a good player. Hope I am the better for it.

I like what you said about position being more important that your hole cards. I would also argue that the oppenents at the table are more important than your cards. For example, say I raise preflop with AK and get a call from a player who has only played 1 or 2 hands over the first 30 hands at the table and that player had shown down a montser hand with strong hole cards. I will play post flop much more carefully than if I have the same betting sequence against the guy who has played 20 of the first 30 hands. To beat the tight guy I will usually need to pair up. To beat the looser player I may call an all in push from him with only ace high.

That is why I think the opponent is more important than my hole cards. It changes the values I need to win the hand (on average).
