I need help on a poker rule I know the rules for Texas Hold 'Em very well, but I recently played a tournament that has raised a question. Here it is: I was playing a tourney at a local bowling alley and got down to 3 players. I was on the small blind. I pushed all in and the big blind called. I won the hand and the person on the big blind was eliminated. From here, it seems simple, I have the button and there is a dead small blind, but the other player that was left in claimed that I had to post a small blind for a second time in a row. Is this right and if so, is there some website or rule book where I can verify this?

Its not as clear cut as you may think. There are two variations of how to play the situation... dead button and moving button. Have a look at this link for an explaination http://www.homepokertourney.com/button.htm

There's more to it than just moving the button like a normal elimination. You are going from 3 players to 2 which is heads-up. General rule is that no player should ever be forced to pay two big blinds in a row when another option is available. So in this particular situation forget about moving the button and move the BB to the correct person going around the table. Whoever should get it next normally, should still get it next. Then the other person becomes the SB and the button and you go into heads-up play like normal. There is nothing against paying 2 SB, just 2 BB.
