Was I lucky?

Wasnt sure where to post this.

I was playing in a tournament last night a raise big with QQ then the guy next to me with a bigger stack pushes all-in I put him on AK and call for my tourney life when it is folded back around to me. He turns over AK and does not hit so I double up. He then says nh you got lucky and I said I always had the best hand how did I get lucky? To which he replied he had 2 overs.

Can someone explain to me how I got lucky or was he just wrong in what he said?

YOu didn't get lucky at all. YOu made a good read and it paid off. How someone can "get lucky" when the other person doesn't hit their 6 outer is beyond me. It was a coin flip, so I guess he was referring to the fact that you got lucky and won the flip?

this is a tipical hand,when you got a pair and your opponent,2 over cards...you could have pocket of 2, the situation would be the same...i think when you go allin preflop and this is situation,here is only luck.

i think what he meant was you were lucky he had the 2 overs to get allin with. if he had AJ or AT he would of folded.

I have lost my fair share of AK all-ins..I personally have had my best luck with JJ believe it or not. You made the right guess and Im glad you called..but he was unlucky and got beat plain and simple...GRATZ on the hand.

What are the chances of AKs (or AKo) against a lower pair? Are the chances the same?

Your odds are slightly better with TT or higher because you're taking some of their straight outs and it's less likely that the board will pair twice giving the other player two pair with a higher kicker. It's only a couple of percent difference though - you have to look at AKs vs 22 before the odds become even. In any other case the pair is in the lead.

Don't take anything you hear at the table too seriously - I heard the same "he got lucky" speech once from a guy who called a 5000 allin with Q8 suited because he already had 800 in for the big blind. The allin guy showed his AA and mr Q8 started ranting about how lucky the guy was for hitting pocket aces at just the right time.

Hey puppet, i guess what he meant by you getting lucky is that he didnt. Coinflip situation so neither one of you where a lock to win the hand preflop. Maybe he meant u got lucky that ur hand held up coz if he had u covered his tourney life was still going regardless but as u said u were playing for all your chips.
