| How to use the squeeze play effectively? HI! i'm new to this forum and I have a question. I've been playing poker a while, but I still consider myself a beginner. How do I use the squeeze play effectively? Do I evaluate my opponents range of hands and go from there or what? Should i fire another barrel if he calls? Can someone please shed some light on this for me, would be appreciated . |

| Give us some examples of times you were faced with the decision of squeezing and we can help you better. This question is really specific. Check out this Ring Game Hand Analysis: Required Reading |

| In general, I suggest beginners don't pay much attention to advanced plays such as squeezes. The main reason is that most of the time, you'll be playing opponents who won't fold often enough Since your own hands will tend to be modest, it will mean you end up playing them in pots that you've inflated by trying to squeeze. |

| Ok quick example of the squeeze play. We are playing 6 max 5nl 100bb effective stacks.UTG opens for a normal 3x raise to .15 cents. His stats are 27/25 fold to 3bet is 85% (the higher the fold to 3bet the better we need to know that villain will fold hands).CO calls his stats are 24/18.Since CO just called his range looks like small pairs KJs,KQoQJs etc.We are on the BTN with A4s.We know UTG has been opening a lot of pots and since we have a A we take some of his nut range away. We?Squeeze the hell out of pot.The raise here needs to be BIG i like raise to a total of 13bb's.It puts pressure on UTG and the CO.UTG was just raising and tring to take the blinds. Then he has a call by a guy ip and a huge raise after a call by a guy ip.He folds. We know CO is weak because he just called preflop when he had a chance to raise his self,he folds. You can do this with all sort of different ranges.I would not do it with small pairs like 22-88,these i would just call given odds and hit a set or fold. I could go more in depth but i'm tired of typing\thinking |

| re: How to use the squeeze play effectively? poker Hey here is a hand i just played for another example. UTG is 23\22,but by position his pfr in early position was 37%. BTN is 24\18. The reason i made it 15bb's instead of a normal 12\13bb raise was the open raise was for 3.5bb's. Merge $4.00 No Limit Hold'em - 5 players - View hand 1537638 DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter UTG: $6.73 CO: $5.45 BTN: $3.16 Hero (SB): $5.45 BB: $3.03 Pre Flop: ($0.06) Hero is SB with J ♦ A ♦ UTG raises to $0.14, 1 fold, BTN calls $0.14, Hero raises to $0.60, 3 folds Final Pot: $0.46 Hero wins $0.46 (Rake: $-0.00) Last edited by JOEBOB69 : 29th November 2011 at 6:15 PM. | It is pretty difficult to answer this question in isolation. There are several things to consider when squeezing.

I don't normally comment on 6max hands because I am more of a FR player but the hand you posted looks completely fine to me. I like your sizing as well. I would be a little hesitant to put too much emphasis on UTG's 37% VPIP in EP. I am guessing your sample size isn't that big? But regardless, his range is wide enough that it's clearly for value with that hand I'm sure. |
