Not 100% sure if I'm answering what you have in mind, but being in position refers to being the last person to act after the flop. So the button would always be considered in position if the button is in play. So if UTG bets and UTG+1 calls and everyone else folds, UTG +1 would be considered in position and UTG would be OOP.

Mmmmm Simple work out where the Dealer button is.... That means your in position! Then there is Small Blind Big Blind.... Carry on around it start with UTG (Under the Gun) UTG + 1 UTG + 2 etc.... So UTG + 1 UTG + 2 UTG + 3 = Early Position UTG + 4 UTG + 5 UTG + 6 = Middle Position Then there is Dealer Button (Best position) Small Blind Big Blind = Late Position Put "poker different positions" to google and look at the images

I got a friend I've tried to teach about "being in position". He loses a lot in poker. I will try to explain and get a "ya but what if..." or some other response. I've just come to accept some people just don't get it and actually starting to really appreciate that fact too. Good luck in the quest.

re: How to know when your in position poker The button or the dealer is in postion. The best way to teach someone about postion is start with the dealer and show them from there around the table. And i like the hot pic posted by CAMurray above

I thought this was going to refer to determine when you can "create" position from earlier position by causing others behind you to fold... Any tips as to what to look for in player tendencies that would lead them to fold to 2x or 3x BB bets... I do think that if you were seated on either side or even BEHIND miss Krupa, you would be in a great position and able to make a whole series of moves!!!

I think the OP may have been refering to what position are you if the Dealer has folded and may be also if the Cut Off has also folded, Position always changes during a hand, depending on who folds, so if you are 2 seats away on the dealers right, and the person to your left and the dealer both fold, then you will be in the best position. But being in position only refers to being the last person to act, that way, You are in position to see what actions that all of the other players did before you have to act.

The button is the best position in the game he is last to act always. The small blind which is the first person after the button going clockwise is the first to act after a betting round and then it goes the big blind and so forth.

In position generally means that you get to see them move before you have to make a move. You have position on someone when you get to see if he bets\checks\raises\folds before you have to make one of those moves. In late position (close to the button) you have position on most of the players.
