how to best play pkt queens

I have been run over several times recently with pocket queens.
What is the optimal way to play this pocket.
I have tried slow play trapping and playing the hand fast, I,m almost ready to fold this pocket every time to any resistance

Umm, it depends, as in everything with poker, but I would say a majority of the time you should be raising preflop with your Qs. There is no "right way" to play poker, so there is no "right way" to play a certain hand. If your saying slow playing them as in limping into the pot preflop, stop that. If your saying playing fast with them by shoving preflop no matter any other factors, stop that also.

Chck the post I made a few weeks ago. Queens need to be played aggressively early on, dont price in the weak aces.
You'll have an overcard (so Ace or King) on the flop 41% of the time.
You'll have an overcard by the river 59% of the time!
Make sure you remove raggy aces and suited K-rag early on, then if you get played back against on the flop you'll have an idea whether you're dominated.

Thanks Kev some good advice there.The percentages are useful.We are up against AA KK and AK the all the suited chasers to start with.

You hve to play them fast. If a K or A comes out on the board and you think your opponent has paired one of them, you have to be ready to lay them down if it gets too expensive to chase your set or straight.

5x BB sounds a bit aggro. Definately need more than standard 2.5 or 3 times though. Judge it from your position. If your late, stick to 3 or 4 times BB. An overbet might look like a blind steal and have the opposite effect... inviting the weak aces in.
4x in early position will look strong though.

I'd suggest changing the way in which you're thinking about it.... instead of "how do I play QQ?"... >> "How do I play a table of loose calling stations with QQ in early position in early levels?" OR... "How do I play QQ in MP in midlevels with two super aggressive players to my left" ..... OR.. "How do I play QQ when the Chip Leader calling station on my right has limped in & the BB defends his blinds like his life depends on it?" , etc. etc. etc.
...... Look more towards the 'situation' & the 'players' on your table. The stage of tourney, stack size in relation to the blinds.... & in relation to other stack sizes on your table (especially the ones yet to act... ie. are there re-steal-sized stacks to your left).

Generally speaking... come in with a raise like you would with anyother hand you're opening with (2.5-3x depending upon stage of game .... if in tournament situation... adding on ~1bb for each limper in ahead of you... & also adding 1bb to your raise size if you'lll be out of position in the blinds). << this is just really general though as the situation on your table may warrant a far different approach.

Speaking words of wisdom..... I suggest that OP read a poker book. All of this information that was said in the above quote will be laid out nice and neat for you, because it's true, you have to play to your situation based on many variables. I can recommend a few good books if you are interested.

Yep, some book suggestions would be good, I will re-read Harrington and Sklansky position on QQ as well.Tend to buy books and read them once so some more re-research will be good.
Positional play, and reading other player styles with QQ pre-flop, then folding to an overcard(s) that are re.raising post flop, particularly when the player is tight, appears the best play.

A little know but solid ebook that I read recently is Poker by the Book. You can get it at pokerbythebook.com. Harrington on Holdem is also really good, which you already know about.

I would play them aggressively preflop, maybe 4 to 5 times the bb since typically big pocket pairs play better against fewer opponents and then fire a second shot on the flop no matter what comes out to find out where you're at. If someone comes back over the top, you're probably beat, especially if an A or K hit the flop.

It depends, do you know how the other players at the table are playing. You cant three bet it and try to win that way.

I had an interesting time with QQ last night, and I’d be interested to get everyone’s take on the hand

I’m fairly inexperienced, particularly in live play, but I’m reasonably confident in my limited game – tight by nature, prone to folding at the smallest sign of aggression, but I recognise a hand when I’ve got one.

So, I get QQ and make a small raise from early position – perhaps a bit too small, but then I had been mucking everything – and get two callers. The flop comes J 7 5, and after I check, Mr Big Stack in the corner raises 18x BB, and myself and player 2 both flat-call.

An 8 comes on the turn, and Big Stack fires in 25x. To which I go all-in, and he goes ballistic. Player 2 is pot-committed with a pair of jacks, so he makes the call, allowing the other bloke to get out while still seeing my cards.

Once he sees my hand, he’s out of his seat with fury, whingeing that I’m a $%^ing fish and how the £%^£ could I flat-call the flop with that sort of hand, and why don’t we go outside to sort this out properly. Personally, I thought I did him like a kipper, and told him so, while at the same time deciding to call it a night because I always play terribly when I’m a marked man. Needless to say, that didn’t help his mood one little bit!

But like I say, I’m pretty new to this, and I couldn’t help wondering afterwards if I had actually got lucky. Thoughts?

^^^I definitely think you should have raised that flop, you don't want ppl to draw cards for free...

For the OP on QQ I raise 3xbb pf, and am prepared to lay them down if an A or K falls on the flop and it is raised before me, but I play a bit nitty.

it depends...
but i'll usually raise to x3 blind if no one raises or if the they raise less then
x3 of the pot i'll re raise pot or if it's a very tight player i'll call and if they push it depends,i'd fold against a tight player but call and average-loose player...

I guess because I'd been playing tight I was worried about scaring my customers away with an out-of-character raise? Should I have been?

And as it happens, Big Stack ended up putting in pretty much what I had been considering anyway, so as far as I was concerned I'd raised by proxy.

If I'd run into A or K on the turn though, I might well have fled like the fish I am!

Main QQ bust is now occurring when near bubble and below 10 BBs.There is no real choice but all-in and the Axs bust me, can't see a way of avoiding this...

Re-reading my poker books with about eighteen months cash experience has paid off as the tactics expressed are far more meaningful now.
