how to adjust to alot of 3betting.
I played 20nl for the first time. I started off well, being +$15 and then lost it all and more in 5 hands hah. It was one reg in particular where i might have overly adjusted.
He kept 3 betting me out of the SB/BB. Well i had TT and had tighten up against him. But i obviously aren't folding TT on the button and he came in with a $2 raise. This was about the 3rd time running. Unlike most 5/10c players they don't adjust to ur game with 3bets. So this was new to me. He was a bit of LAG FR at 17/15 but he was certainly targeting me. But how would u proceed? I decided to 4 bet to $6 as he was very aggressive post flop/i thought i was ahead of his 3bet range and plus i knew i'd face a tough decision with a AKQ or J likely to peel. Well he flat called and the flop was J25rainbow and with a $12 pot i felt i have to shove my last $7 against his range. I put him on AK, AQ, KQs, QQ, JJ and i was right about him being semi light. He showed KJs and it held up. Was this the right line to take against him? I think i'm writing this to let off stream. Because i busted another $7 5hands later with KK vs a 19/0/70hands who 3bet me. I just knew he AA but i was still annoyed with the hand earlier and thought "I CAN'T FOLD KK" and he had the rockets ![]() I think i'll stay at 20nl as i'll have to learn to exploit getting 3bet light. Usually at 10nl nobody does this or if they do. It's almost certainly AA/KK and sometimes AK. I was only buyin in for $10 and 50BB but i want to play deep stacked and some of these decisions with marginal hands are going to require some work. Just some thoughts about playing 10/20 for the first time. Granted most of the players sucked and i was silly to take on the best player at the table. He was also pretty useful post flop - floating, double barreling etc. Lesson never take ur EGO and PRIDE onto the poker table. He was certainly questioning my masculinity lol "What he's 3betting me again!! does he think i'm a weak/tight player ahah. GG |

That has become one of my weaknesses in recent weeks. Allowing an opponent to "target" me and then allowing that to throw my game off. I have actually walked away from my usual site for a week now because it was having such an influence in my game. I bled off $15-$20 before I had to move though. Have gone back to winning poker at a different site, but also not sure how to let the attack roll off and/or how to really handle without emotion.
If you find a way, I would love to learn. I thought I was emotion free at the table, but found out better. Good luck. |

yes, gns i thought i was tilt free also. But when u move up the stakes and guys are blitzing you. You can start to feel frustrated by it all, not only was this guy 3betting me. He was floating me, raising my cbets and was an alround pain in the ass. He was very good for 20nl, i would'nt be suprised if he'd played around the 50nl mark.
I actually started to adjust to him post flop. By either check/calling his bets or double barelling into him. But this is a different ball game to what i'm used to at 5/10. Looking back at that TT hand i played it perfectly. I'm losing to 12combinations in QQ,JJ and i'm winning against 36. So 36/12 in my favour and i'm a 3-1 shot vs whati believed he was holding. I was wrong of course, but we don't have all the information. Maybe someone can help me. Would i have been correct to get it in on a flop of K25rainbow that hits his range harder. AK, KQ, QQ, JJ have me beat and that is 36combinations and i'm beating AQ which is 16combinations going on unseen cards. So i'm 16/36 against on the flop(about 2.2-1against his range). And i'm getting around 2.7-1 on the shove when called? This is what lets me down. If i shove and he folds AQ i pick up $12 and if he calls on the 2occasions he's ahead i'll lose $14 and have a few outs for the set. So that looks pretty EV neutral. Btw, anyone know a formulae to calculate EV lines please. i'm just using estimations which isn't ideal. Anyone new guys want any info about combinatorial jazz..just ask and i'll explain it for you. I haven't really go onto incorporating it into pot odds etc As you can see lol. Well especially betting lines and will he call/fold/raise etc. Last edited by Michelle5000 : 19th December 2008 at 4:42 AM. |
