Help with Stud H/L

I am playing in a freeroll that is stud h/l and i am doing fairly well. I just need some help in what hands to play and which ones to throw away. So far i am playing normal hi stud hands that i would play and i am also playing hands that the first 3 cards are below 8. Any tips or suggestions you have would be appreciated.

Normally, playing with three low cards is a good tip. As far as the hgih cards go, unless you have a near lock at a high hand (like rolled up trips or a high pair) fold them. Anything with A, 2 is a good hand to play as well.

My suggestion is to not get aggressive while chasing a lo. There will always be a hi hand, and it is much much better to work on developing those hands than chasing a low. If you can limp along while your lo looks good, do so, but don't get caught up in any self made excitement.

My advice is to ignore this advice.

When playing stud hi/lo, you can get an idea about what people are going for -low or high hands- by their upcards. If one only goes for high hands and ignores low hands, they are missing out on wins and won't scoop often enough to be profitable.

"The object of split games is winning the whole pot, also known as scooping. This is the most important concept. I cannot emphasize this point strongly enough." -Todd Brunson, Super System II

Exactly. Amen. I should have Todd Brunson's quote tattooed on my arm so that I won't forget it whenever I play a split game. This is exactly why I always get accused of nitting it up when I fold split 8s and a king to a raise, and of being a total moron when I three-bet something like 5-4-3.

The reverse also applies, what exactly do you mean by "self made excitement"?
