Help with ring games! Have a look at my stats...

Okay, so after about 3500-4000 hands played, im consistently losing at ring games. Having recently tried switching from SnG's i need some help with some major flaws in my game...

here are some stats:


anyways some of the major problems i am having is it seems like the hands i play that i lose alot more money on losing hands as opposed to how much money i win on winning hands. I'll be playing for an hour or so and be doing well, set mining, playing my draws, and then all of a sudden ill lose big on a single hand.

i think i developed a trait from the SnG's to play my TPTK and overpairs too strongly. I play a hand and C-bet after raising with something like AK and hit top pair, then get raised and have trouble letting go of the hand, even though sometimes i am 90% sure i am beaten. I think i discredit too many players and since i play at micro stakes i assume that they are ignorant and play med pair or top pair with worse kicker.

also, a big chunk of my change comes from pushing with a solid hand preflop like raising with KK then re raised and then i stack and lose...im down over $7 with KK alone...

so any changes i should make in my game or is this too small of a sample and need to keep at it?

I'm curious what your winrate is currently. At these tiny stakes, I don't necessarily mind the fact that you only raise 6% and limp with another 11%, but that's going to need some refinement further down the road. Could help now.

From what you're saying, it sounds like you have a good idea of a couple big leaks you already have. I'd first work on getting those under control. You're definitely right that tptk isn't the same in a ring game as a tourny.

Really need more info to make an analysis. Need WWSF%, WTSD, W$SD, 3bet%, Call 3bet%, 4bet%, Fold to cbet, Turn Cbet%, and Fold to Turn Cbet% to name a few. There's so many ways that a player can be leaking, and just looking at numbers isn't the best way of doing it. Ideally you'd have someone watch you play a session and tell you okay, this is good, this is bad.

You could make a video, there's a forum for how to make them in Poker General -> Poker videos, and I'd gladly watch it for you and give you some pointers.

Am I reading that right that your attempted to steal blinds percentage is lower than your VPIP? Not only are you ignoring position, you are actually playing more hands out of position than in it.

Depends. Set mining is generally when you have a situation where you have good reason to expect to get paid when you hit your set. That's either an incredibly maniacal table or a big raise from someone who you know can't lay down a big PP.

But that shouldn't be enough to force you to have inverted position stats. You *have* to tighten your range early and loosen it late. Start folding low PPs and AT, AJ, maybe even AQ when under the gun.

You need to be a little more aggressive all around especially preflop. You have to learn to know when to crank it up...

IMO you need to close the gap with your VPIP and PFR ...If you vpip is 17 then your PFR should ideally be around 12-17 ..and your attempt to steal blinds should be way higher..

A good winning player (in general) would have stats similar to a VPIP 17/PFR 15/ATS 35/Agf 3 ..

if I have a PP in EP I would raise 2-2.5x the blinds and play a small pot OOP..just because its a well disguised hand if I hit my set..I fold all suited connectors and broadways from EP but as I get in the LP I play them..I would raise if I am first and call if there already a few ppl in the pot..if im on the button I would raise a high percentage of my hands and isolate players in position..

You raise when you're first in only 2.7% of the time? That seems way too low, doesn't it?

koady makes some good points ^^^ I agree with his numbers... you are generally passive preflop, not good...

There should be a tab that shows VP$IP/PFR/winnings by position that might help with the reviewing here. It does look from this screen that you're not loosening up/getting more aggressive preflop according to position, but that other tab that I mention should clarify that.

And it makes a bit of a difference if you're playing full ring or 6max, and we're assuming that you're playing with a full stack at all times.

It's not so much that there are more donkies, it's just a different type of game. It's a lot more profitable to chase a draw when you know you're only going to have to call 1 or 2 bets since you're almost always getting the right odds for a call.
