Hand reading.
can anyone point me in the right direction of how to start putting opponents onto a range of hands.
I play holdem (limit) hand have PT3. My problem is I simply dont know how to interperate the stats! Also with so many hands being folded in early streets I find it difficult to figure out what people had so cant really make jugments on what people might be playing in ther future. Are there any good books dedicated to hand reading? thanks |

Try playing around with this for a bit. DB Hand Ranger v4 for No Limit Holdem
It's actually suprisingly accurate, try it out with your own stats |

It's an inexact science that you pick up from experience/practice. You're basing this estimation of hand range on their previous actions. For example, if someone is VP$IP 25% of the time, he's generally playing any pair and A/T+ in early position, and A/Xs in late position. But if someone's playing 5% of the pots he's generally better hands like J/J+ or A/K in early position, and A/J+ from late positions. There's other variables as well. Some people like to steal more than their fair share of pots, so their late position range will be weaker. And what people are willing to VP$IP or PFR with varies depending on the action before they act. ChuckTs is probably a lot more exact about range, and Zachvac is probably a lot more exact about numbers. But it's all based on imperfect information and unless you have hundreds of hands on an opponent, the stats you see are going to be off by a bit so a little wiggle room in your estimation is no big deal. IE, multi-tabling sometimes I have a 6% VP$IP on one table and a 36% VP%IP on another. That doesn't necessarily mean that I'm playing vastly different hand range on each table. Sometimes you run hot, sometimes you run cold. So your stats don't necessarily represent your range in the short term. |
