Probably very silly question, but what does "backdoor" refer to? And gutshot... I'm not real clear on what that's referring to. Any help?

The '$y' there is the tourney fee, it goes to the house.

Backdoor is filling an unintended hand. Say you have a pair, villain hits a bigger pair, but the turn and river fill a straight or flush for you. You're original pair were not intended by you to be aiming at either, but the hand came to you via the backdoor.

Gutshot= u need a card in the middle to fill your straight. A245, 4578 akqT etc.

Can someone explain to me why as online poker players, all obviously over 18, we can not type without abbreviating anymore?

Hehehe, JK JK!

All in good fun, of course.

Thanks so much for the list, I'm a cardschat newb and was somewhat confused by all the abbreviations. This list helped out a lot, and the "Less Common" ones were great for a laugh

Very useful for a beginner like myself. I posted a thread asking for poker phrases and their meaning, never saw this until now. There is one phrase I don't understand and that is What do it mean when someone says they have two live cards.
