Is it a good idea to sign up at more than one site ?

Hello ! I am new to online poker, and am playing with play chips at Pokerstars at the moment. I have been lurking at several forums and it seems that many people have accounts at a few places. But when one is learning, is that a good idea ?

For instance, is it even worth it try out Poker School Online and Full Tilt ? Is there an ideal number of sites ? Or should I simply pick one and stick with it ? Or use one at a time ? Please advise.

As long as you don't play multiple sites at once, its okay to sign up at multiple sites. It gives you an idea of the players available, the format of the site itself, and the game selection you will have. I have accounts on a few sites, but I like the format and set up of Full Tilt the best and am most comfortable there.

When I first started I signed up on every site I could find with a freeroll that had starting times I liked. I played alot of hands and then finally settled on two sites. Take the time to get "the feel" before you invest your money.

kid's just joking, there is nothing to be afraid of when he's around like a puppydog, lol

j/p kid

As far as your question, I would just stick with one site at first, like kid said, to get the feel of the game. Every site has it's good and bad players, but almost all of them have ~ the same caliber player at the micro levels and freerolls. I would choose one of the big 3, Pokerstars, FullTilt or UltimateBet and start it out slow. Don't be playing in 3 freerolls and a cash ring game all at once, because you will do terrible. Gotta get your feet wet first, then, once you get better, you can work your way up to a couple sites...

Thought, play money, is not the same as real money games. but is a great starting point, and can help you in BRM.

Hey, AbsolutHamm ! I am reading your blog now, and I would like to know how you got the nice chart to appear ? I am still trying to get a good record keeping system going, and the blog concept seems to be very nice...

Also, I found a free bankroll offer for Ultimate Bet, so I am now checking them out. Not as nice as PokerStars, but if I build up my roll big enough, I can swing it over to Full Tilt or something (once I clear bonuses, etc.) Or to Stars. Will have to see...

Depends on what do you want to play!
If you play cash game one side will be enough.
If you play tournament than more sides will give you more types of tournaments...

I had not considered that... I am focusing on cash games now, but would like to do tourneys later. From what I hear, Pokerstars has the best tourneys, and FullTilt has the best freerolls. I'm still getting my head around some of the aspects of the game, but I look forward to playing well enough for tourneys - they seem fun, with lots of play for the dollar !

Keep in mind when you decide to try out other sites, that we have some pretty good bonused here: http://www.cardschat.com/poker-bonuses.php

I think if you are just learning the game, then one site is good for now, like others have said. But then again, how will you know what you like if you don't try them? Pretty much every site has play money so you can try them out. If you don't like them, you can always uninstall them before you deposit.

Welcome to Cardschat, and good luck!

As it has been mentioned already.
When you sign up to a new poker site go to a rakeback site first.
I was so disappointed when I found out how much money I could have saved if I had joined a new poker room through a rakeback site.
Don't make the same mistake I did.

Thanks for the compliment on the blog, I will PM you with how to do that in a minute because it takes some time.

As far as the free bankroll offer, I would be careful with this because a lot of the time it takes so much that you have to clear with these, that you will almost surely never be able to cash out. About 4 years ago or so I remember signing out for something like this for PartyPoker and I thought it was the coolest thing.... FREE MONEY! But after I started playing and building up upon that, I think I built the free $50 into about $350 or so in the first couple weeks, so I was just going to see how PartyPoker's payout system worked and found out that I would need A LOT MORE in order to be able to clear all of the rake orders for that site. It was something ridiculus, something like 15,000 raked hands in order to clear it. Just tellin ya to make sure you look into it before...

the great thing about multi web sites is you can always find a game so your not stuck on a particular day with no tournys , since your starting out i would recommend to check out all the popular sites and just see what fits around your schedule, you'll have fun play'n multiple sites and you won;t get bored playing the same format

Or you could just join a big site, then you have no excuses for there being no tournies. For example, 2 days ago PokerStars had 198,000 people logged in... I don't care what stakes you're looking to play, you will find one. Multiple accounts for a beginner is overkill imo
