Going from cash games to tournaments

I'm wondering if people have any suggestions from going from cash games to tournaments. I read people have this problem but am wondering what suggestion people have. I won a FPP sat. into the $3.30 $50000 today but got killed. I was more upset with how I played then anything. Any suggestions?

In tourneys you are often more shortstacked, so you need to take this into account.
Its crucial to know everyone elses and your own stacksize.
In cash games EV and eq have 100% correlation, but not in tourneys.

Generally cash game players have an easier time transitioning to tournaments than the other way around.

In a tournament, remember that you can't re-load, so chips are worth more. You can't afford to play speculative hands like small pp's or SC's unless the blinds are tiny. Otherwise you're going to bleed your stack off.

You can also generally make smaller bets, since as previously stated, the chips are more valuable to the individual, they are (should be) less likely to call.

Lastly, maximizing expectation isn't as crucial as picking up chips. In cash, you determine the best bet size by multiplying the likelyhood of a call by the size of the bet. However in a tournament, choosing a smaller bet size with a greater probability of being called is often the best play, since adding chips to your stack is so important.

Make things easy on yourself..... read the Harrinton On Holdem Series - Tournament Play (Vol.1 & 2). These two books cover alot of good stuff and will definitely give you a decent base for playing NLHE Tournaments.
I would say this is a 'suggestion' about as much as saying when going skydiving it is 'suggested' that you use a parachute.
If you haven't read any poker books, you might want to pick up a copy of Phil Gordon's Little Green Book prior to reading the HOH series (it is well-written and very worthwhile to read).
That's it for my 'suggestions'.

Thank you for the 'suggestions'. I'm actually reading Tournament Play Vol. 1 right now. I got good at tournament play but went to cash games and had success but now I'm on a downward spiral. Cashed out most of what I had in PS so I wouldn't be stupid. Probably read for a while and get some advise first before really playing again.
