Floating Hi All, Ive heard people talking about "Floating" on these forums. Can anyone please explain what is is and where/how it is effective? Ive read some explanations but I cant see much difference between trying to steal based on representing you are chasing a flush/straight when it does hit and plain bluffing? Thanks in advance, CuttleFish

So is "having a plan to steal on a later street" what differentiates it from just being a calling station? I've sometimes deliberately asked the dealer "how much is in the pot" so it looks like im calculating pot odds of chasing a flush, then to take it down after the turn or river when it hits and i didnt really have it at all. So this is floating?

If you use a HUD you should also look at fcbet vs tcbet stats. There are a lot of people who rightly cbet like 80%+ but then only bet the turn with TP+ (tcbet ~30%). They're good candidates to float. Just make sure you have enough hands to know that the numbers you're basing your play on are accurate.
