First One

first time posting,
Today i just entered my first tournament witch was a $60 buy in, and i placed 17 out of 153 and i won $76 i only started to play seriously about 6 months ago and have pretty much lost a lot but learned a hell of a lot, the main thing i learned in my first tournament is almost all the action it pre-flop.
Any advice/tips would be helpful

thanks

Your first tournament was a 60 dollar buy in? How much is your bankroll?

I keep a journal of my poker "investments" and how much I made so I can objectively see whether my bank roll is really increasing or not and so I can also spot trends. I just started that in December, and I only use my poker money for poker, not other casino games. I started out like you, just kind of winging it with what I felt comfortable with if I lost it, then it wouldn't hurt me. Meaning that I don't ever use the money I need for paying bills, etc. on poker. If I did that, the pressure would be too much and I would make wrong decisions and feel that I would probably end up down. Good luck.

Well, one way to build up your bankroll (it may seem like a pain in the butt) is to start playing low-buy in sit-n-goes. If the money you have in your account right now is at 76 dollars, then you really shouldn't play anything above a 2 or 3 dollar buy in. You're not going to win huge amounts of money in every tournament, but you can build up slowly. Once you get more money, you can play for higher stakes. That way, if you get a bad beat on a tournament, you still have money to play in other tournaments with.
