First 30 hands

Can u tell in the first 30 how ur tourny is going to be? I feel like if iam hitting some flops with the hands i fold, i get a little loser, just wondering how people judge the first stages of a tourny?

wth are you talking about??? Is this a joke??? You cant tell how a tourney is going to go by the first 30 hands unless of course you go broke in the first 30 hands lmao. Quit trying to "feel" and play the cards in front of your face, put ranges on people, take notes, online poker is more about mathmatical decisions and calculating hand ranges and odds than about "feel".

I can't tell how my 'luck' is going to run by whether or not I am catching flops early, since I don't really believe in luck, just statistical anomalies which even out over time.

What I can tell after the first hour or so, is how I am playing, and how my opponents seated near me are playing, and from that I gauge whether the tourney is going to be a rough ride or not.

Maybe you are feeling the same thing, but calling it luck. I.e. if the table is passive, I open up a little more, and play a few starting hands I might not, since they are giving me a good price to make huge hands. If the table is aggressive, I usually tighten up, and pick my spots a little more carefully. A lot of players claim to be 'feel' players, but I think they use more math than they think.

genereally i dont think you can tell the feel by the first 30 hands unless it is a 9 person sng. other than that it is near impossible to place your many opponents on solid cards with almost no play. In the first 100 hands, you begin to get reads on your opponents, but until then no.

I can't tell until the blinds are atleast to level 11 or so usually in a big MTT tourney. but even then you can go out the next hand with a little luck for the opposition. soo uh.. no you cant really feel if your going to have a good tourney unless how you feel effects how you play and when you feel good you play well. then maybe you can but I cant ok I'm going to stop rambling now lol.

Players normally have a kind of base gear for the different kind of blinds they are playing, and the different kind of stacks they have ofc they have to change it from time to time during play, so they don't get to easy to read, the only thing you can see is if some of the players play badly, but then again what is bad play in poker ? it's like, some people likes classic music and others are pure heavy mental addicted.

And as said by others, the previously played hands has nothing to do with the next hands, it's a brand new game for each hand.

yeah, I don't really think you can tell how a tourney is going to go based on first 30 hands. I normally fold most all of these hands anyway, because people make some very strange plays at this stage!

Answer: No, you can't.

I try to play tight early on and observe what's going on. I once won a 1000+ tourney when I missed the start by 15 mins so early stages are just that, and unless my stack falls to a level where I have no fold equity for raises I try not to worry.

On the first stages of the tourney just play tigh, but obviously if you got something good play hard, dont try go all In , only if this is necessary

I play mostly real life poker (local bar tournaments). Early on I'd either get heady overconfidence if my early game was hot or discouraged if it was weak. After a while I just started playing, regardless of how my luck was running.

I can't even count the number of times I had bad early runs in a tournament only to pull out a final table finish. You just push through. On the other side of the coin. If you have a huge run early on you have to keep playing a level game so you don't bleed your chips out on stupid plays.

One thing to consider is, if you're having a bad run (at any time in the tournament) is it luck? Someone could have your number, or just play in a way that hits one of your leaks. If you ID that it's NOT luck then you need to switch up your style.

I usually find myself folding the first 30 hands unless I pick up a monster. There are a lot of times during tournaments that I have maybe only played 2 hands before the first break. So it is kind of hard to judge.

I don't think you can learn anything about what the outcome of a tournament will be at any stage. I've started out getting monster hands and pots, and be out before the 1st break. I've had times when I was barely above the starting stack until after the first break, then all of a sudden hit a rush of cards and I'm near the chip lead.
My only advice is to never give up, because you never know when those cards are going to start to come.

Agree with this. I seem to do my best when I just worry about my stack in relation to the blinds. There's been a few times when I'm down to under 10xBB and one or two or 3 hands later I'm near the chiplead.

You can see more flops and play a little looser if you got more chips from the beginning. That helps a lot!
But you can also get many chips later in the tournement....

The first 30 hands online is the first half hour. Considering that a big tourney can last from 3 to 8 hours, the first 30 minutes is whatever it is. You have to play fairly aggressively to get into trouble in the first half hour. Or to gain a big stack in that time. I tend not to be in either of those camps. I try to keep my stack at 30BB to average, but it will go up and down. It's a long haul, and I try to conserve my energy and my chips.

In a big tourney, the early chip-leaders are seldom there for the money. They take too many risks. And, of course, the early losers are out. My goal is to survive, to stay in and stay healthy, to feel comfortable and in control of myself.

i think that within the first 30 hands you know if your playing good or bad.

yeah.. i dont think there is a way to tell this early in the game, my best advice would be to sit out for a while and wait til the move u to another table if u just arent catchin cards

i normally start getting chips after 30 hands, before i used to lose chips in bad beats. Lol
