final table 15BB with KQo,

wondered what the members thought the correct strategy would be with this marginal hand KQo? The final table has 8 players left two fold before me and I get the hand above. I've had two pretty bad beats which has knocked my stack down to 15BB when the blinds are 2-4000. Should I a)just shove and hope for the best or b) raise and hope it gets through to take the blinds or c) fold.
It's just that when you are being dealt junk and the blinds are so dear then you are going to get blinded out if you don't make some kind of move. I'll tell you what I did when I get some responses. What size stacks were behind you? Any reads on those behind you? Whether to shove here will very much depend on your reads for those left to act. So the answer is 'It depends.'

K/Q is not a great hand, and you're not in a good position. I probably just fold.

If I've been playing tight and folding a lot, then I probably make a 2.5bb open then fold to the re-raise. But after that I'd be in shove-or-fold mode.

With anything less than 20 BB's your fooling yourself if you think there's still room to play poker. You'd love to steal the blinds and KQ is no monster but it is a top 10% hand that stands to do well against many of the hands that might call you. Time to put it all on the line. Shove and hope for the best.

without knowing the rest of the details about table & situation, I'd agree with this here. On a stack of 15bb's.. you really don't want to be raise/folding (unless all the stacks are super short as it often is in your typical priv. mtt online). But also as mentioned above 'it depends'.

Thanks lads for the responses, what I actually did was raise 16000 i.e. 4x BB hoping to catch the blinds, it got folded round to a guy who'd been lucky just recently in the tourney and he put me all in, I wasn't folding so I called and he showed Ac10c I was quite happy about this 60-40 but I didn't hit and went out. He commented 'I'm just too good for you' when I left but he was big and black so i didn't do anything...!
I thought I'd just ask one more thing...probably the hand that cost me was one on the table before the final table. The blinds were 8-1600 and I'm on the button with Kh5h I've done well in this tourney so far and have 100,000 I call on the button with two callers before me. The flop comes 5d 4c 4d. One caller folds and the guy sat next to me goes AI for 30,000 well I don't put him on a set, why go AI? So the next is nut flush draw, anyway Ive got top pair great kicker and if he's got what I think it's prob' 50/50. I've got the chance to knock a good player out so I make the call, he shows his nut flush draw Ad6d to give him 15outs and he hits on the turn to make his flush. Question...should I have taken the 50/50 or sat on the chips? Thanks everyone the sniper

That's an easy fold preflop, yeah suited K looks inviting but it can get you into so much trouble as you have seen.

It's not necessary to play marginal hands just because you have a large stack. That doesn't mean you should always avoid playing them either; it can be pretty situational.

So the initial call with K5s isn't necessarily awful or good. Once the flop comes down and the opponent shoves, I think you should ask yourself what his range is, and also whether you stand to gain as much or more if you win the hand as you lose if you don't. This doesn't refer to the number of chips, but to the utility of them.

I probably fold to the shove. Top pair fives could easily be well behind to a limped middle pair, and when I'm ahead, I'm seldom a big favorite. Factor in that losing the pot may well hurt more than winning it would help, and I think I can wait for a better spot to play a big pot.

It sounds like you have the same problem that I have in MTT. if i get a big stack and feel really good I start playing alot more hands alot looser, lose a few rather large pots and next thing you know I am below the chip average

This is a much better hand when on the button. I would probably fold in your position.

Good comments boys, I particularly like thunder's and perhaps this is part of my game I should look at, but I have noticed that a lot of good players say you should try and bully the table if you are chipped up and pick on the short stacks, this seems to be the opposite of staying tight.
