The Ferguson and Daily Dollar Freerolls (Full Tilt)
Hi everyone, I'm decent at regular freerolls and lower level MTTs like the daily dollar, but I avoid cash games because I don't really care to be good at them, I like tournaments more and I'm playing poker mainly for fun. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on breaking into the cash in the Ferguson and daily dollar freerolls, I've only cashed once in both, but I mostly finish early in both, any idea on how to turn these into more consistent wins would be nice, I don't have time every day to play them because the ferguson opens and closes entrants really fast and the daily dollar freeroll i can only play on the weekends due to my college schedule, but I like both because they're quick. Any ideas? I know they're more like bingo and I wouldn't be surprised if no one has a good idea on how to really be successful at them...

Ya its a problem.. a good alternative I've realized is the 25 cent buyin MTT where out of about 400 players, 100 go on to the daily dollar, at an hour and twenty minutes long its just about as long as the daunting and nearly impossible daily dollar freeroll. 25 cents doesn't dent my bankroll very much, hopefully it's worth it.
Today I was playing the dd freeroll and it was frustrating because I was pretty card dead after my first double up up to about 600 chips and i stayed between there and 500 chips, when I finally got pocket queens the blinds were 100/50, so I shoved my 700 in and the guy to my left came in with AKs and got trip aces on the flop lol... fun stuff that freeroll... |

Daily Dollar = nit it up. In my experience if you just stick to premiums, maybe a little set mining, and manage to get a double up in somewhere you can almost fold your way to the cash because people bust out at such a massive rate.

imo they're the best freerolls on FTP simply cuz of how quick they are. Even if they only pay $1. They're both turbos, I don't think you can really win them consistently especially when you start with 300 chips in one. I cash a few times, then can go a long time without cashing. I think I've cashed a total of 11 times in both. Just play solid poker and eventually your cards will hold up.

re: The Ferguson and Daily Dollar Freerolls (Full Tilt) poker
DD takes forever to play and not really a very good payout til the FT which takes maybe 6-7 hrs to reach. Is it worth the effort?
Probably better to play some 1 table SnGs and play TIGHT....more payout, I think, and u have greater flexibility with your time. Wally |

One tip in these tournaments: You can't stop playing as the bubble approaches. Towards the end, the blinds get VERY big real fast. A lot of players stall, hoping to slip by, and before you know it your 30K is getting eaten up by the 20K/10K blinds!
A good chance to practice predatory bubble play for free. Be on the lookout early for the player who acquired his big stack via a six player donk-off on the first hand! |

I tend to stay away from the dailly dollar because it is a free for all because of the rebuy early on. If I play I tend to play very tight and adopt the no rebuy position. If I get a big hand I will go for it but if I go out then so be out. I have seen guys throwing anything in first few hands and spending more than $10 dollars just to double up. Does not make sense to me.

Not bingo at all
These are two of the tournaments that i can placae in possibly one out of 3 or 4 times on average. The ferguson is a little more difficult as those blinds just get insane before the final 100. I can teach you the dd one easily. It is ALL about position playing, 100% position. Super turbo's i find very challenging but I place in ALOT of them. Usually raise from the button, if no one called before and even the small blind, push. Read opponents to your best of your ability as that is a HUGE key. DD freeroll, fold your hands in early position, if you get 66 in 2nd position, FOLD. 99 in 2nd, FOLD, do you want to risk your life against an AK vs QJ vs your 99?? It's tough, wait till you have position then make your move. You can blind out and make a comeback, i let blinds hit me 2 times and did not play one hand, i won that tournament, just have to learn how to play it right.

Playing these tournaments is a lot about luck unfortunetely. Because of the fact that the players are so loose, you are gonig to get yourself into a lot of showdowns and will just have to pray that your hand holds up.
However, once you get to the later stages of the tournament, you can start to adopt some skill level in, if its folds to you on the button, size up the situation and then probably decide to dump. Stealing blinds in these tournies is very vital. You could go for the option of going all in every hand and spending abit more money to get some extra chips to play with. Good luck with these! |

I've done well in the Ferguson tournaments: 2nd in Razz and 4th in NLHE. Something like that, it's been awhile. If there was any secret, it was I never called any bet. It was either raise, re-raise or fold. The only bet I called were all-in bets. Tight but extremely aggressive. The Ferguson tournaments are really late, which is a shame, I would love to play in more of them.
