Correct Bubble laydown?

I'm kind of curious on this one.

This was from a MTT I was in the other day. Top 63 pay and I was sitting in 61st atm. (I had just taken a bad beat about 5-7 hands ago that dropped me from 24th to 61st.)

The bubble was coming around, their were 66 people at the moment. At this point I barely had 2.5 BB and I was UTG with JJ. I was kind of ticked from that I was now in this situation but I wanted to at least salvage a ITM place.

I decide to sit there with all my time and then fold. Disgusted that I folded that but with a full table and being very low stacked, I decided to just call it a bad break and at least get the ITM finish.

By the time it got for me to be the BB we were hand for hand and then by the SB we were ITM. I was out 2 hands later but I cashed.

Just curious any thoughts about whether this was a good move or not?

Get it in, you can still win the tournament from here. and your still a few spots from the money, deffo need to shove this. a min cash is pretty unimportant in terms or ROI, as we want to aim for top spots.

If that is the tournament level I usually play, I would definetly just shove no matter what, try and get myself back on track for a big payout.

But if it's a bigger tournament I fpp'ed or satellited in, I might start to think about folding this, but only if the mincash really improves my bankroll.

With only 1.5bb's left in stack on the bubble, I woke up with big pr. & shoved, got two callers, (more than quadrupled up w blinds & antes).. then within 5minutes I was actually in Top10 (bubble was at ~100players) and actually had a final table finish (4th).
With something like A2o I probably just muck it & try to squeeze in if cashing is important.. but with a hand as strong as JJ.... no hesitation - get your chips in the middle!

I did freeroll into this tourney and it the cash padded my bankroll by 15%. I guess I was just thinking of the cash. Kind of made my choice for me. lol

Ok, guess I went the wrong route. That's why I'm still learning. I appreciate the comments.

Given you improved your bankroll by 15% folding JJ was correct.I have bubbled numerous tournaments when ITM was minimal but given the circumstances you now outline you made the correct decision.

I think that considering your on the bubble, many players may just let you steal the blind as your 2.5BB stack could be a significant hit to theirs, I say shove it be aggressive. I've never been a fan of shutting down on the bubble, but I won't be shipping out of position with a marginal hand, however in this situation JJ is a monster, ship it!

Glad to hear that the cash did increase your BR by 15% so that's a good thing. Only bad news to that is imagine what a deeper cash would've done had you doubled or even tripled with JJ.

True it could have, hence why I'm asking to improve my game

I appreciate all the thoughts and for an overwelming decision.

There are actually some spots where folding a big pr. like that (on the bubble) could or would be a correct play from an EV standpoint. I actually read about an interesting one where the guy had AA on a super shortstack & there was a player on the other table who'd been allin & lost the hand BUT that guy had a bigger stack at the beginning of the hand & if the AA guy shipped & lost he'd be the bubble boy. Most of the players responding were saying how it was sooo easy to just shove BUT then a few of the online ranked Top100 players responded saying it was actually a much closer decision than so many were making it out to be.
A scenario I'd consider folding in with JJ would if there were other super shortstacks about to be hit by blinds & cashing for me in the tourney was significant or I'd satellited my way in or was playing with a Tourney ticket, etc (or like above when another stack is already allin & has lost the hand..... &/or hit timer to see if they lose the hand)
Another example (although quite a bit different) > .. I actually bubbled the $33Kguar. on Fulltilt the other day and could've used the $44 as my account is quite low on there presently... a few hands off the bubble I lost a huge pot with KK in BB to an EP 18bb shove... EP held TT and hit a two-outer for the win. It left me with ~7bb's and I ended up shipping it allin from UTG with A5o, not realizing it was the actual bubble (and lost to AJ.. incidentally... shoving with something like 97s would be better than Ax from utg imo). If I'd known it was the actual bubble I would've folded the hand.

re: Correct Bubble laydown? poker

That's one of the things (where the bubble is) I've been practicing lately. Mostly to try and avoid things like you discribed.

I had been doing well was around 20, next thing I know I'm flirting with the bubble +/- 2 spots when i took a bad river beat. When I get JJ It was almost hand for hand, of which it did right after I folded it.

Just bubbled QQ. There are so many hands against a pocket pair below AA KK that I will learn one day and fold QQ around the bubble ran into AA.

You are looking at two outs to improve against AA KK AKs AK all the Axs Kxs hands people play you are only less vulnerable too broad way straights.

Losing to the above is not a bad beat, more bad judgement of the circumstances, low stacked shove, around the bubble cash, then attack the final table.
