Continuing to Setup your Opponent

Here is a tactic/stragety I've been working on for a while. Trying to iron out some kinks.

I would like some feed back and constructive criticism.

This works both under MTT and cash games, will work against players whom pay attention to you aka better players, donks wont notice.

The basic premise of the idea is to play as if you are a learning/adjusting Noob, using this to bluff.

What the plan is, early, is first to convince the table you're a noob. This is accomplished several ways.
-One limp into pots and fold to bets. This is a slower way that can cost you chips, I don't prefer this one but it works if all I am getting is low suited cards. I can see flops tryin to hit while lookin like a donk.
-Over slow play the nuts, this one I like best. This play can set you up for a whole session. You show the nuts and how you didn't get your value.

Next step is to start bluffin. I like to mirror the early slow play with the nuts, Except the next step is to bet the river. It looks like the noob has, once again the nuts, BUT this time he wants to get some money, a pro player will fold unless he has a pretty good hand thinkin he has you figured out.

After this has occured, playing the role you do. You bet hard pre-flop and on the flop. This move looks exactly like the noob is now fet up with getting no money with his hands and wants to start getting chips in the pot.

At this point people will fold to your pre flop raise, allowing you to take down blinds almost at will, in a MTT this become invaluable at some point.

You could, and I do, use this exact formula for the opposite effect. Play a monster as the noob bluff, you know Over betting, and getting calls.

What do you people think? I'll prob re-read this and have to edit the hell out of it lol!

this would never work at micros, due to the fact that nobody is paying enough attention lol

and idk if sacrificing value on your monsters would be equal to the amount you gain from bluffing while repping the monster....

I think this is overthinking. A good player would be trying to do different things too.

A lot of reading has to be done for this to work. I think it would be hard to get all that information across to other players while getting the right situations consistantly. I think playing a bit unconventional against good players is a good idea though!

Well players are easy to read. Pretty much 3 categories, your average will only play better hands and may over play AK. The loose "wannabe" that thinks he can out play you at poker so plays all ranges of hands. And then the fish.

All of which give you chips. You bluff the first group, and you just setup the other groups.

And to setup a player you gotta play certain ways.

Remember! You have the advantage! You will be assumed to be a donk everywhere, everytime, unless you prove otherwise.

Weird thing is... I never lose at chess, but I'll only play as Black.

Actually this is not true. You need to adjust to your opponent's,... you can't be trying to use level3 thinking vs. a player who's only capable of level1.

I find I'll often give way too much credit to opponents (ie. for just the stuff I consider the basics... ie... "guy isn't really calling off 1/3 of his stack pre here without a 'monster'.. he's gotta be trapping" < meanwhile guy is just a donk who calls off 1/3 of his stack pre & will often fold postflop, lol..... or.. this one I happened upon today while sitting on fairly shortstack in BB w 33.. utg with 6bb's (Q was low in this MTT)... he 'limps' UTG... MP (random/unknown) wiht decent stack raises 3x... I fold thinking > "UTG limping with ~6bb's.. UTG.. is that a f'n monster lookin' for action from the other resteal & shortstacks or what?" (what else could it be?). I was wrong... it was JTo. Why he's limping utg with JTo is way beyond me... & just another example of when I (or you.. or whoever) needs to take the thinking down a notch (or ten)...cuz they're simply just playin' bad... don't know any different, etc.
One needs to adjust.... & it's easy to over think situations often.... even if they seem to be real basic at the time (ie. "how the fk couldn't they know that?)
