Disregard the negative criticism about Harrington's cash game books. They're definitely worthwhile, especially if you've already read his tourney books. I too hesitated about getting Harrington's cash game books, but I regret that I waited so long. The good news for you is that the books have been out long enough that you ought to be able to find a good used copy at a reduced price.

Secrets the pros wont tell you about winning Hold em poker. By Lou Krieger and Sheree Bykofsky.
I actually have to read it again because when I first read it I just learned how to play so when they talked of position and made other references I had no idea what they were talking about so alot of it just went out the window. But that is where I did learn to tighten up my starting hands when first playing which helped me out alot. |

re: Cash Game Book Recommendations poker
I put off reading HOH on Cash as well, but figured I'd be getting them sooner or later.
I have them sitting here now. My thoughts.... Vol.1 I was just flipping through and thought I'd check out some of the HH's to see what they were like. They all seemed really straightforward and then just decided to continue on going through them. Not one hand stood out for me,.... it was all pretty basic TAG FR play. Breaking into Vol.2, reading cover-to-cover - - more meat to this book but still pretty straightforward stuff imo. I hadn't read many books on cash game play prior to these, mostly just articles online (alot of them). Comparing the HOH cash game books to stuff I've previously read online.... stuff I've read seems superior to me. One that particularly stood out for me was RyanFees 6maxNL Strategy Guide. I guess to sum it up about HOH on Cash.... I was a bit disappointed but am in agreement to other reviews I've read about the books - - pretty straight-forward TAG FR stuff. |

Not sure your stakes:
Ryan Fees ebook (Although a lil dated it is still good to read for the fundamentals, and is free) Small Stakes NLH (More geared to 50-100nl, imo) NLHT&P- good basic theory book No offense meant. But I disagree on the Harrington cash books. But that could be playing style dependant I guess. |

re: Cash Game Book Recommendations poker
I, admittedly, think you could be better served. But with HoC, you will learn the basics, I guess. There isn't any bad per se in them. But I think it teaches too nitty of a style. Again, this is most likely due to my style of play being different.(This is most likely because my primary game is/was PLO and PLO8, I chose my NL coach based on what I was comfortable with style wise).
I think you'd be better served taking the cost of 2 books and buying a month of Dueces Cracked (in no way affiliated with them, just my experience). You'd have a month to watch and download enough vids(series), that you would keep the learning curve going for a longer term than what the books would teach you. |
