I created this thread to attract those here at CC, such as myself whose game could use a critical eye. The concept could possibly allow us to help each other and learn from one another.

The method might leave our personal tendencies in a given hand open to the others in the group but Im thinking this would be a very small downside.

My idea is to get together a group interested in taking turns watching (without interaction) the others play a live game. for example:

Player A plays the game (type & stakes irrelevant).

Players BCDEF, watch on Teamviewer or Mikogo.

As they watch, they can take notes about specific questions, or just ask WTF were you thinking?

Its important there is no communication during the game for obvious reasons, were not looking to "team play" a table.

The only real downside I can come up with would be the possibility of an opponent somehow seeing or being told the players cards. But thats a very long shot and as long as we keep the buy-ins moderate, this too would be a mute point.

Anyway, if the idea interests anybody and you have the processor speed to handle it, post here who you are and whatever alterations and/or additions to the concept you might have.

I think this would be great. I'm always willing to learn some more.

Sweating and team review are probably the best way to learn.
I'm an SNG player if that makes a difference at all.

SNG player here, too. This also interests me, but with 1 caveat.

I've tried these groups before. In the past, they've either run into problems organizing or have fizzled out after a couple tries due to lack of commitment in the group. If the group gets to a point where there is some solid participation, count me in. (Nothing like shuffling plans so I can be in front of the computer at a certain time, only to have the rest of the group flake on me.)

why not just record the match , then posted for review....if you do it live there alot of problem, but i think your heading to leakfinding am i right on this

Recording is a good option, I have considered that.

I figured when we let a few more interested, together we can hash out a system that works for everybody and allows for the critiques we all are looking for.

I'm in with the reviewed games - usually too many tables and other things open when in mid game.

I need to brush up on my computer skills first though, too.

(I know TPC and others made good threads about how to make a video - need to review that).

I can only start in may (too much on my plate until then).

I agree w Stick getting study groups off the ground is the prob, many have tried and fizzled in the thread (LOL)... I may try a short ring session PLO and post, but my free Camtasia is gone and now they want real money (300 smackers I believe).

Railing live via methods above or skype makes for some tricky ethical considerations and rules etc...

I mean you have to think of it like this, if you playing live and you boadcast it to the world there a good chance that your villian might be watching you as well.

Broadcast? Who said anything about broadcasting?

What CA described in the OP is called "sweating". It's commonly done for poker coaches and/or select others, both live and online. Jenn Harman taught her then-BF Marco how to play poker by letting him sweat her live by having him just stand behind her and watch.

The way it is commonly done online via TeamViewer etc. is for 1 person or a small group to watch someone play a hand or hands and then talk about it afterwards. Some poker coaches do use this method to give advice during a hand and it is a widely accepted method of poker teaching. But if we get a sweat group together, we'll probably be all close to the same skill level and we probably would want to do our own thing during a hand anyway. The object is post-hand critique, not in-hand decision suggesting.

Sure, recording and having the group watch later is an option. But then that would be called a "study group" and not a "sweat group". I'll go either way. Though to me, sweating is more interesting.

For those who haven't bought Camtasia and need free screen recording software, here's a couple I've tried:

CamStudio is good for beginners, but I use BSR for more adjustability.

I'm going to try BSR , I normaly use camstudio, but the play back is some what not clear some times, so i want a more clear recorder...will bsr do that.

To get clear and synced audio, you may have to play with the adjustments a little. They differ on each computer and depend on your preference. The higher your audio quality, the larger your file size gets. So it depends.

Yeah I have to play with it alittle, i try recording with it and it does have better quality, but for some reason can not save it due to saying that the file bad...so I'm going to go through it tonight and try to find some answers.. thank for the heads up on the program.
