My apologies in advance if this post has been answered elsewhere. Please send a link to the relevant thread if this is so.

I've been using the wsop App for ipad for a few months now and starting to become obsessed with the game. I've been analyzing my mistakes and reading up on strategy. It has come to my attention that the only way I will actually get better is if I start playing with real money. None of my friends play, so home games are out. I live 10 mins away from Council Bluffs, IA (where gambling is legal), but I know I am not ready to play in a casino just yet. How much experience should I have before deciding to play at a casino? How do I improve my game otherwise, aside from reading books and watching videos?

Why can you not play with real money online?

Also, if you play with play money online and get up to the highest stakes then it can become similar to real money sometimes. If you can't adapt and beat play money consistently then you won't be able to do it with real money either.

As for gambling at a casino, it is generally easier than online, so if you are breaking even online then you could probably play successfully at a casino. As long as you use proper bankroll management and go there to have fun it shouldn't matter much anyway.

online poker is illegal in Nebraska, where I live. Thanks for the advice on "play" money poker though. Most of the posts I have read seem to agree that "play" money poker has little to no value for poker education, so its nice to hear that it hasn't been a complete waste of time.

I don't agree with the old "it's easier in casinos" thing because it is all a matter of perspective.

I've found most fishy casino players play a weak small-ball like game where they take small chances with weak hands but only really GII with the best postflop.

Could you go to the border of Iowa and play online poker?

The thing about all forms of poker is that you really just need to learn how to adapt to each player type and table differently. But it depends what your ultimate goal is really.

If you are never going to play online and you want to eventually play in the casino then maybe a quicker way to learn would be to just read a good book on how to play basic ABC live poker, then go to the casino, play tight, and watch what the winning players do differently.

Well, if you could play on-line, you will be more prepared to play in casino. But, in my opinion, you should watch some vídeos and maybe register in a Poker School. But the most important it's to trust in your game playing. If you define your hands to play and be very focus on your game, you can play poker in any place.
