Broadway cards facing a raise

I've been having trouble with these the past couple months.

I play 6max 5nl or 10nl and a lot of the time I'll get a sexy AJs, KQs, etc in mid-late position but then someone from UTG, UTG+1 or MP1 will raise and i'm just not sure what to do anymore. I know back in the old days i would have immediately called with these hands but now i've just been tossing them. I feel like either i'm making a good play by getting rid of them or losing out on potential money and not playing these are a leak.

I come to CC for advice. Is it better just to throw them away because villain probably has either bigger cards and takes some of our outs or is it better to just play them? I know that it really depends on the player but i'm just talking about playing against typical 5nl players(not regs) like a 32/8 or 24/13 etc

Its better to see the flop before you fold. Watch the players and make notes. When it comes time to show make a note on how much and what they raised on.Most the time I am sure their hand are not better than yours. Some players will raise on dumb hands or because they know you tight.

Well it dpends on the raise and your reads on the raisers.

Often they could be playing loose agressive, have picked up that you are too tight or think Ax is a good hand.

Once again, unfortunately, it circumstantional

Like said above, depends on the players them selves.

Assuming you are using a HUD, if the UTG with 10/8 puts in a big raise, then im folding. Pretty safe to assume he has QQ+ and your an underdog to start with.

If however the UTG stats were 20/12 then I would see the flop. His range then could be 66+,A9o+,A4s+ so we arent in too much bad shape calling his raise. Sometime I may even 3bet it just to even out my 3betting range.

With stats like 30+/10 im raising to get him to fold his more marginal hands.

Once the flop comes, if I hit it hard bet, but keep in mind his ranges. If I miss it im check-folding.

Also consider whos behind you in the button and blinds.

If they are the tight 10/7 type person and they put in a raise im folding KJ but would call AJ. If they are more 30/15 then raising mid position can help keep them out and make it just HU with the UTG.

I find these hands are much more based on playing your opponents than straight bet/fold mechanical.

I must admit tho when multitabling, depending on how hectic the tables are going (i.e multiple flops going on and screens popping up everywhere) then ill mechanically fold a lot those hands from mid position just to save my self the hassle of having too many potential marginal plays going on at the same time and having to think them all through.

It depends on alot of things. With AJ suited your really looking for 2 pair a combo draw. Stacking off with top pair is dangerous because of your kicker. You need to look at the player how much money they have. Their tendencies, your position, etc. Just dumping broadways to a pre flop riase every hand is definitely a leak, but there are def times you should fold.

Yep. Calling with JTs and ATo are both options depending on the player. The higher his preflop raise, the more inclined you should be to call with hands that make top pair type hands (hands you can continue often with).

Against players who have very low preflop raise statistics, you want to call with suited, connected hands like QJs. Hands that make bigger than one pair quite often. If you flop top pair, you can play a small pot in position.
