I think this is a good place to point out to everyone that,IMO, one of the best autnors of entry level poker strategy books, if not the best, is our esteemed "new member" and GOH at this Sunday's money added event. Mr Tom McEvoy has written 12 poker books, alone and in collaboration, and I urge all newer players to pick up one or more and give them a read. I guarantee you'll learn plenty! Tom's books are well organized, easy to read and understand, plus he makes learning fun by including stories and anecotes of his years of personal experience.

If this sounds like a fan letter, it is. The first poker book I ever read was by Tom, and it helped my game immensely.

I'm a big fan also - whenever I hit a bad run I go to my shelf and pick up a book to get myself back on track, and more times than not Tom's name is on the cover.

"How to win no-limit hold'em tournaments" is my current commute-time therapy session

Well, if you are going to start with Tom McEvoy, I'd suggest newer players begin with his "No-Limit Texas Hold'em: The New Player's Guide to Winning Poker's Biggest Game". It's from the new player series and is geared for those starting out and earlier on. I've not read it personally yet, but again, this is the one I'd probably start with based on picking one from Tom McEvoy.

I particularly like for beginners the book "Texas Hold'em For Dummies" by Mark "Red" Harlan. Very insightfully presented - if you have played some, it is that much more informative. Very comprehensive treatment of all topics includes more advanced treatments of poker odds, pot odds, implied odds, game theory, and a number of advanced topics. Has a 5 star rating on Amazon.com. I hope you like it.

I will humbly disagree, and suggest that you are better off spending your money here.
