Basics that I have learnt

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY THIS HAND!

i.e. Pick your battles carefully.

I thought I might write down a few of the most basic things that I have learned playing poker. I forget easily so I'll try to come back here and check my notes before a game.

Any other BASICS are welcome and appreciated.

good grief...

Better late than never, but good on ya. Many folks in freerolls consider it a donkfest, and make no apologies. Also not my opinion, hopefullt the jury is mostly out.

#2 BELIEVE THE BETTOR

I always get screwed right after I say to myself "I don't believe they have it."

Me too. But here is where I've seen repeat behavior - raising/winning with nothing - and sometimes flaunting it. Been burned here too, where they somehow hit - but to each his own.

1. FOCUS ONLY ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL

2. YOU ONLY HAVE THIS SINGLE HAND

3. ALWAYS MAKE YOUR OPPONENTS GUESS WHAT YOU'RE FEELING/THINKING!

NEVER HELP THEM BY RANTING, DISRESPECTING, ETC.

Oh yeah... have fun, damnit

Good luck,
Dayne

High level games

If you don't have the bank roll or the experience stay at the lower levels or freerolls until your confidence and skills improve. to much to soon spells disaster.

Free rolls are a great way to learn online poker and cheap. If you go deep the quality of poker will be better. First few levels are a allin fest, rarely you find a table that is full of tight players. Just keep playing and gaining experience before you play any real money games. If you cash a freeroll you a free BR ( hard fought one I might add) play like its your first deposit. Also read up all the poker you can. This site helped me tremendously with all the info on it. Use the resources and play poker and you will improve.

I have been playing with fake chips and have built up quite a nice fake bankroll. I know that sounds goofy but, I feel like it is helping my game. I am not going to play for real money until September unles I win it in freerolls. I feel this will give me the experience to understand the game.

Poker is like life...every hand is like a new day. You play each one differently.

I did this as well and found it to be helpful, but you should be aware of its limitations. When you play for real money the dynamic changes and it's like playing a whole different game. One that is somehow familiar, but a whole different game nonetheless. After a certain point there's no substitute for just jumping in.

Big time.

My biggest losses come from thinking the other guy is bluffing.

Somewhere around here I saw a list of ways to lose, and on that list is 'assume your opponent is bluffing'.

Working on it .......

Somewhere in 'Super System', Mr. Brunson says " I never drink while playing ...... not a drop". (or words to that effect).

It's easy to get overly aggressive after a few beers, so I abstain.

How is Canadian porn better?

I don't doubt that it is, Canadian sports are better, Canadian bands are better, so I'm not surprised. Just curious.
