...also, take advantage of Goldstar offer from Stars, and then the $100 bonus at Tilt starting midmonth.

Wish I'd've gotten that damn goldstar offter. Did make silver though, so I'll likely be playing more .5/1 FL than I planned to. But when I get the new computer I'll be super tabling 10nl

My goal for august is to get a descent BR going. I only got money on Bodog, hoping to cash in any CC freeroll on FTP, Bodog, Carbon, or Ultimatebet. On pokerstars i'm probably going to get a ticket for tomorrow's 2K seconds round freeroll.

Now that I have my new computer setup and have migrated to PT3 and Table Ninja, I'll be playing the $5/18man SNGs on PS as my main game plus occasional $8-$24 MTTs. Starting out with 4 SNGs at a time.

Tonight was a good test start, 4 $5 18-man SNGs, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 7th

The one $10 tournament started out great with a triple up 1st hand but went card dead in 3rd hour and busted 674/3003 w/ ITM at 342.

Now that i'm comfortably settled at 50NL over 40k hands, and have been 22 tabling through it at 3.9BB/100 I believe i'll be making the push for supernova the rest of the year! I know I dont technically belong in here but its where I started 6 months ago I just cant leave! Goodluck in August!

well hello all
i haven't been posting in this because i am a fairly casual player, usually only playing 2-3 nights a week for an hour or two, generally taking it easy and paying more attention to life than poker (maybe i play as many hands in a month as jake does in a day, lol). however, i think i will start participating more here, and eventually my game should go up faster

so, GL everyone, and see you around!

Alright guys, let's talk about double barreling.

Here are a couple of hands I played last session. I want you guys to discuss why my double barreling is good or bad.

Villian in this hand is 79/20/1.9. Fold to c-bet is 22. Sample size is 87 hands.

--------------------
HAND #1
--------------------

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
Hand History Converter by Stoxpoker

Hero (BTN): $31.40 (125.6 bb)
SB: $25.90 (103.6 bb)
BB: $25 (100 bb)
UTG: $28.75 (115 bb)
MP: $13.75 (55 bb)
CO: $6.15 (24.6 bb)

Pre-Flop: Hero is BTN with Q K
UTG calls $0.25, MP calls $0.25, CO folds, Hero raises to $1.25, 2 folds, UTG calls $1, MP calls $1

Flop: ($4.10) 9 8 3 (3 players)
UTG checks, MP checks, Hero bets $3, UTG calls $3, MP folds

Turn: ($10.10) 7 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $7.75

Same villian, a few hands later.

--------------------
HAND #2
--------------------

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
Hand History Converter by Stoxpoker

Hero (MP): $28.95 (115.8 bb)
CO: $25 (100 bb)
BTN: $25 (100 bb)
SB: $29.10 (116.4 bb)
BB: $18.65 (74.6 bb)
UTG: $4.75 (19 bb)

Pre-Flop: Hero is MP with A K
UTG folds, Hero raises to $1, 3 folds, BB calls $0.75

Flop: ($2.10) 4 3 2 (2 players)
BB bets $0.25, Hero raises to $2, BB calls $1.75

Turn: ($6.10) J (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $4

In this example I elect to check. I want you guys to tell me why you think this is the best move. Villian here is 19/15/1.1. Fold to c-bet is 0% over 224 hands.

--------------------
HAND #3
--------------------

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players
Hand History Converter by Stoxpoker

CO: $25 (100 bb)

MP: $25 (100 bb)

Pre-Flop: Hero is BB with J A

Flop: ($7) 3 4 5 (2 players)

Turn: ($16) 9 (2 players)

I'll explain my thought process for all these hands after a few responses.

I can't really talk much about barelling and can't read the hands very clearly but I don't think barrelling such a fish is profitable with air as they will call down with alot of second pair and shit hands. Maybe barelling tag or lag regs in good spots but I think just stick to value betting vs these fish but just my 2 cents

I honestly don't think double barreling is a good play here for any of those hands first off because if they flatted a flop texture like that the dynamics of the board didn't change much on the turn for any of them. If a Q-A came on the turn then it might be a half way decent play, but as the boards read on each turn there is not really a scare card to double barrell with. To add to it, if you have a calling station fish he isnt going anyplace thus -EV play, also the 19/15 most likely isn't flatting the flop to float you, thus making that a -EV play also. However, i'm a full ring player so I might be reading into this wrong, but i'm pretty sure the lines are relatively similar. Just my thoughts

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Here's my thought process on the hands:

Hand 1 is probably the only hand I think I played poorly. Against 79/20 fish, I'm not really doing much for myself by c-betting the flop and turn with air. Obviously most of the time they're calling down with probably any piece of the board on the flop. His turn check was just weak and I couldn't resist throwing out a bet, but I agree that this is -EV for the most part simply because the turn card changes nothing and in fact is a bad card for us since it hits his range/drawing range quite well. If he had an open ender he just got there and there's plenty of combos that have our hand crushed.

Hand 2 is where I start to evaluate what this fish calls with. Obviously he is capable of folding on the turn, I just don't know if he does it with air or marginal holdings since his range is so wide. The flop is pretty standard, he donk leads and I raise it up. At this point his range is probably flush draws, suited connectors, unsuited connectors that hit the flop. The turn is a decent card for us to barrel because it's a face card that hits our range pretty well. Obviously this guy probably isn't thinking too much about my range, but his own, but I think my turn barrel puts him to a commitment decision about his hand. He's really hard pressed to call my turn bet when when an overcard to his hand has fallen and he has one more street to come. Plus, add the fact that I had seen him fold earlier when I applied pressure on the turn and it was more so of a reason for me to fire out a bet. FWIW, I definitely don't make it a rule to two-barrel 79/20 fish because there are obviously better villians to do that against, but I was going off reads alone.

Hand 3, villian had been stealing pretty wide so I elected to defend by 3-betting in the bb. This flop is pretty bad because it's coordinated and he really isn't going anymore with any overpairs to the board. Being out of position pretty much forces me to bet this flop and check/fold the turn if called, and that's exactly what I did. If villian were pretty aggressive I guess I could check/call the flop since I'd be seeing the turn for the same price and wouldn't have to worry about being raised if I bet flop, but being out of position just sucks in this hand and to be honest it's probably better just folding since I'm drawing pretty thin to a likely chop.

Haha. Actually I have been experimenting with different stack sizes. I bought in on 14 or 15 tables at $2.50 each (1/2 stack) and played with up to about $10 on a couple of table as my stacks grew. By the end of the session, most of the tables were between $4 and $10 stacks. I played normal strategy (not SS) but was willing to commit with low stack-to pot-ratios (SPRs).

Anyway, $28 profit at the .02/.05 nl tables was my best so far. I was running good -- had AA six times and KK eight times in less than 600 hands. Flukish, I know.

You lose so much value when you dont buy in full. I'm sure you've heard it before but its true. Jake had to hear it 729592358x before he stopped mass multitabling and stuck to 10.

as for me, I had a nice 6BI d/swong yesterday when every donk hit, my cbets never got folds, and i hit sets 6% over 5k hands oh well, Im still at 25nl and hope to put in like 60k hands this month 6tabling 6max

no i dont have a life before school start :P

re: *** August Micro Thread *** poker

Hey guys, just realized I'm not subscribed to this thread, posting mostly to get subscribed.

In addition to playing time goals, what specific strategic goals do you have? Mine haven't changed much since last month, still focused mostly on 3bet/4bet/5bet dynamics and opening up my nitty pf ranges.

I've added one goal, which I'm getting help with, and that's to use my db to analyze a few specific regs that I see on the tables a lot and who are tough for me to play against. This should indirectly help me improve my game - as I learn to identify and exploit specific player tendencies, I should be able to identify ways in which I can be exploited and plug/curtail some of those opportunities.
