AQ suited from button

I was at FT taking advantage of their Take 2 promo. I was playing the 9 handed ring games. Near the end of my session, I got AsQs on the button. MP raised to 3xbb.

Is this an automatic reraise? I was about to make my 5 pts requirement and the raiser didn't seem like the hyper aggressive type so I just flat called, not wanting to raise up the stakes with a good but not great hand.

I flat called to see the flop before reevaluating.

Flop is KJ3 rainbow with one spade. He leads out with a 70 percent of the pot bet. After thinking about it, I didn't think it was very likely that he had a hand that I could scare off with a reraise and it was more likely I was behind. So I folded.

Did I play it too passively?

wel IMO i think the fold was great and that you didnt just make another call postflop...he coulda had AK or KK, hell even KJ...good fold I think

Personally I would have reraised to see where I was in the pot.
If he reraised you again, you can be sure you are beaten.

You need a read. The key read is whether or not he is a frequent c-better or not.

I really hate flat-calling with A and something and then just folding when an ace doesn't hit.

Preflop if he's limping we're obviously re-raising to isolate. With him raising in MP... by re-raising aren't we just folding out hands we dominate (ie. AJ, KQ)?

I think you did well pre-flop just flatting to see the flop(I would of re-raised), than on the flop just folding with all the out/draws you got. You should have at least called very possibly re-raised to see where you were at, but yet again you probably saved your self most of your stack by folding. With no information on the villain, I'd consider re-raising pre to see where I'm at, or raising post to see where I'm at.

By just calling you gather no new information, and since you provided no information, I would be raising to gather my information.

This is a pretty standard re-raise against a non-rock, but seeing as a lot of 9 max ring game players are rocks...You'd have to make the decision based on his stats or your observations.

Flatting pre is fine against most non-crazy villains. Post is fine as well against some villains but I'm likely calling the flop bet and then either folding if he bets the turn or taking the pot away if he checks the turn.

Betting at any time to "see where you're at" is ****ing horrible and if you do it you have a lot to learn.

The call pre-flop was good, just flat called with two suited cards. That way you hit three spades and you did not re-raise pre-flop and give away the strength of your hand. Folding was good also. Just let the player also know you can fold. Some people would have at least seen the turn for straight possibilities, but all in all you played the hand fine. X

I think AQs can be a tricky hand to play after MP has raised. 3-betting may or may not give you more info if he has a big hand. I would want to hear more info like has the villain been raising a lot lately. I think there are basically 2 ways to play it and you chose the safe route.

I agree 3 betting into him would give you a better read on the range of hands he could have Pre Flop. Also more info on how villain plays would be more helpful.
