This is a discussion on anything you can use as a measurement tool for improving your game? within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; Was just wondering if there might be anyway to measure improvement in your game other than thru wins or bankroll?...

i dont have use any poker tracking software so i dont have an easy way to track my win rate using the BB/100 hands method. What I am doing instead is tracking each session in a spreadsheet. I use a new spreadsheet for each month. Each tab represents a game. SNG, 10NL, .25/.50 7 stud etc. I track the table i am on, the date, buy in, cashout and PNL. its far from perfect but i know last month i took losses in MTTs and SNGs. 7 stud and PLO8 showed the biggest profits for the month and i was only a small winner in NLHE. now i can focus on my NLHE game this month. I know i have leaks, just have to focus on fixing them.

re: anything you can use as a measurement tool for improving your game? poker I agree that spreadsheets is a poor mans means of validating what your doing. Fancy stuff like Poker Tracker is great, hey, Fathers Day is coming up.....lol, but spreadsheets to capture the money piece as Stu stated earlier is what its all about.

As was stated, in cash games, BB/100 is the best way to measure improvement, but this has to be done over 100s of thousands of hands as general fluctuations int he game can make this stat vary greatly. You really can't track this without tracking software, I'd highly recommend Hold Em Manager if you are serious about the game as you can do endless of anaylsis and plug leaks in your game.
