Any advice on All-in or Fold?

I play in a lot of freerolls where people are going all-in on every hand pre-flop.

It can be very frustrating when I've got a good hand, but don't want to risk being knocked out of an event. But these players dominate the table and if I don't push back, I'll get chipped away at anyway.

I've only been playing poker for less than a year and any advice would be helpful.

The best you can do is wait until you have a premium hand (JJ or higher) and hope to catch them. Unless you seem them do it with absolute garbage, there's really no reason to do otherwise.

I don't know how people can just keep shoving in their stacks on every hand. It doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, that's not poker...at least how I was taught.

Why dread this! This is exactly what you want, pick up a hand and knock em out, especially in these freerolls putting yourself at 60-40 positions to win and such, is exactly how to do it.

Because most people don't make any real money at free rolls, so there is more EV at the other tables. It makes it very frustrating to play real poker in nearly any free roll--at least in the early stages. The general mind set is, "let me roll the bones and get a huge stack. If I get knocked out at least I didn't waste a bunch of time."

Most of these players either want a quick double up for an early advantage, or just dont have the patience to grind at a freeroll so want to accumulate enough chips to sit out and auto-fold to the money. All you have to do is sit out for the first 10 minutes. Leave the first round of blinds for the all-in monkeys, they'll knock themselves out and you'll be able to play your own game against some proper players. The field can drop by up to 50% in that first round of blinds, so leave them to it and dont be one of the bad beats.

I useually only play premium hands in this spot also. Just dont get into to the pot in the 1st couple blind levels unless you have JJ or up as beefcake said.
But definatly pay attention to what hands the all in person(s) are playing. Just incase you find yourself at a table with a decent player who happened to hit AA against the all in idiots a couple times.
By the time you reach the 2nd blind level it usually slows down enough to be 1/2 way decent poker. And by the 1st break any of the lucky idiots should be out or auto folding.

The only other advicehave is to work at qualifieing for the freeroll club here. You might find 2 or 3 people like that in a CC freeroll, but not many. For the most part the feild in CC freerolls are quality players, with a few really good ones.

i find these people are easier to take down so by the 20th hand they will be broke anyways the best way to beat these players is to wait till ya hand makes more than 21 and then ya should be in position for the call

Granted the freerolls provided by the sites do have a lot of these players and when I first started playing on line I stopped playing them because of this. Now, after playing on line for about a year, I am thinking about playing in them again for 3 reasons 1) to take advantage of these players by waiting for a premium hand in the early stages and trying to knock them out - if I lose it's still early in the tournament and I haven't wasted much time. Note that I disagree with sitting out at the beginning of the tournament. 2) If I happen to encounter a losing streak, instead of going on tilt, I will play in freerolls without losing any of my bankroll until I feel ready to start playing in money tournaments again. 3) Hearing about Cardschat and their freerolls, it will be more enjoyable to enter these tournaments (once I have enough posts - I like the requirements of this forum before being able to play in them).

Patience and Timing
Pick your spots and take advantage of there poor play.
Bingo players are a gift.
Easy chips if you play it right.


Beginning levels of a Free Roll are difficult because there are so many players and they have nothing to lose.

Learn how and when to catch them.

Just be patient, and when you have a nice game just play. I also play a lot of FRs and always have to deal with that kind of guys. Now i learned how to break them, and the game is really nice now.

Just be patient, wait for the good cards.
