am i doing it wrong???

hey ppl quick question

am i playin wrong by tryin to see every flop if its cheap enough ?


i have recieved many names from fellow players mostly donk though

am i really doing that badly???

You haven't given us a lot of information here so I will presume you are talking about MTTs (because if you are doing this in STTs or Ring you will go broke in a hurry.)

I'm not saying you won't also go broke in MTTs because you will unless you are extremely lucky.

Trying to see flops cheaply is not, in itself, a bad thing but you need to be aware of what you are trying to accomplish.

Say you are in MP2 with J2o and there are two limpers in front of you. What do you accomplish by calling and just what, exactly, are you trying to hit ? OK JJ2 or J22 would be a great flop but how often is that going to happen ? So most of the time you are putting money in the pot with no chance of winning.

The reason people like Harrington and Sklansky (among others) give recommendations on starting hands and positions is because these give you the best value and chance of winning. They don't guarantee you will win but they will give you more chance than if you play garbage.

If you want to read a book by someone who is supposed to be a VLAG player then read "Every Hand Revealed" by Gus Hansen. You will see that even he doesn't play total crap.

even with a strategy like small ball, where you want to see alot of flops, they stress how important position is. You dont have to see every flop. And are they calling you a donk cause you play loose or cause you chase all the way to the river with junk to get lucky?

way to vague to answer correctly. you have to define what too cheaply is. Is it limping? min rasing? or something else? I wont go into things since some of the others have done before hand however once you get that answered then we can make a definetly response to your question.

Think of it this way:

Say we are both sitting at a micro cash game and each of us have $10. There are 8 other players there too. The blinds ar 0.05 and 0.10.
For the sake of the example we'll assume that no one ever raises PF.
So what do you do? Well you call every single time because it's "cheap enough". The rest of the players and myself only call when we have good starting hands in good positions. Let's assume we all (except you) read this:
Online Poker Guide > Texas Holdem Starting Hands and we play exclusively that way.

So most of the time the hands are you, one of the blinds (the other folded since he never raises he never gets any "early position hands), and one or two other players. Since your calling with any two cards, and the big blind is forced to do the same what do the other players have? Well according to the chart the worst hand they are playing is T9 suited... most likely they have pp5's or better or Qjos or better. So let's assume that ever time anyone bets, the others all fold. Well also assume that some how you manage to win on average two hands everytime the deal goes around or "orbit".

With one blind, you and either 1 or two others, the average pot will be:
3.5 x $.10 or $.35

Since you win two of those, you win an average of $.70 each orbit.
However there a ten hands played each orbit so you've put in $1.00 per orbit.

At this rate, in 33 orbits you've lost 33 x $.30 or $9.90 leaving you with just on more hand to play .... and when you subtract the "rake" from each pot you're not even winning back .70 per orbit!
