I will answer the topic question:

"Is poker skill or luck?" - It's skill. On poker you can lose on purpose which means that you are aware you're making bad plays but still make them. On random casino games such as roulette - you can't lose on purpose because you don't have any control over anything, it's all luck there

Sometimes it's correct to go all in before the flop - when you ask poker players for advice you need to give us the FULL picture.

Example:

1- 1st hand of a freeroll, we start with 75+ big blinds. We have AK, in the big blind. 4 people go all in before us. For me this is a fold here, 5 ways AK will be behind often.

2 - We have 8 big blinds, We have AK, in the big blind. 2 people go all in before us. We have to call, AK is too good in a 3 way pot - good chance for us to triple up.

These examples are very different but hopefully you get my point

luck can not explain why final tables get the same familiar faces....I believe that luck counts a very low proportion....if you rely only on luck will lose a lot ... you need lots of practice to develop your tactics to tackle the kind of tournament favorite .... so you make money

In the long run it's definitely based on skill and not luck i believe

In a SNG it all depends on the amount of BBs a player has, for this we look at a shove or fold chart. Also did someone else raise in front of him/her.

For freerolls it's just guys shoving and being donks about playing, they think well if i shove 1500 chips no one will call it..

It all depends on the table and players on that table.

If the player shoving is a shark, then its skill.
If the player shoving is a little fish, then its luck.

It's not one or the other. Poker involves both. The skill element separates poker from games involving only luck, but the two are not proportionally consistent at all times.

in freerolls you have to built a big stack early in the tournament, thats why they shove all the time

If you rely only on luck you will lose a lot, but everybody who win tournments had too much luck, ofc you need skills, but you need luck too. The skills will maximize the probabilities you find out final table or have some winnings, but you need luck ofc.

luck plays tricky part in poker that's why you need to improve your skill because if you go all in with pre flop then you might lose but with skills you will do better than that.

For me everything about poker is luck because I have to be lucky to find a player whose skill is worse then mine.

Everything no, but in too many times it is involved ofc. It is a point, you need some luck in the selection of players in your table. well viewed.

depends on what hand you all in :))))if you have good cards...is not really luck...but all-in preflop it is a higher percentage of chance than normal..

If you know when you are ahead or when a good opportunity presents itself to go all in preflop then you're doing that with skill, sometimes you get it wrong or are unlucky to run into better hands but if it were luck people would just go all in randomly. At freerolls this is more common.

Against mofos with preflop raise tendencies of 30%+ and AF of 3 or more, I generally shove it when OOP with AQ,AK and 99+.

He usually calls and I am ahead 80% to 90% of the time. After that it's luck.

Just had one when I flopped a set of 8s but he hits runner runner straight (the only way he can win).

So yeah, luck trumps everything.

I think it's more about the feeling, if you feel (not think) you are going to win, even with cards like A 2 you simply go. Of course you only do that in a freeroll, there are very few all ins in real tables.

Hi man !

First of all welcome here ! This is the place to be to learn and improve in poker. If you have any doubts, you should check the forum or write your question and some more experience members will help you for sure.

I would recommend you only playing with premium hands like AA, KK and not to go AI with AJ or even AQ....then you would not depend on the luck factor too much.

So good luck @TABles

all in preflop

The skill in poker is analyizing betting patterns and putting your opponent on a particular range of hands so if you know your opponent is likely to go allin with AQ-A10 and you have AK with no one left behind you to act it's good poker to call him, even if he hit's his q on the flop and bust you out. It's basically a game of information deciding between true and false information and incomplete information.

There is skill in knowing under what circumstances it's correct to go all in pre-flop. But this "correctness" is based on probabilities, so on any given hand, it becomes luck. If you have KK and 6BB, it is right to push. It's highly unlikely that someone has AA, but if they do it was a losing play. It might be wrong for someone with Ax to call you, but if he hits his Ace it was a winning play. But over the long haul, it's better to play when the odds are good then to allow yourself to be blinded out.

In my opinion, someone uses this way like a skill, but there are a lot of people abused it so many times in a table, then it became "luck".
