advice on final table I made final table playing live in casino the other night, I had 10000 left the blinds were 1-2000 I was on the big blind, I've read about first in vigour and I must get used to this to try and stay in the game but I was dealt J6o and had a raiser of 5000 into the pot which was 8000 it would have cost me 3000 to call or go AI but this other guy I felt sure would have called the AI, should I have called? I felt it was just too average a hand and folded but it was a tight and tricky spot I went out soon after. One more point about first in should it be with any hand or something totaling 17+?

Unless it was a big stack in the BB or SB who likes to steal it's an easy fold. If it's folded to you next hand (in the SB), and you have enough chips to hurt the BB, you shove any two cards. Ditto when you're on the button. Then after that, you shove any Ace, or any King into an unchallenged pot. You are desperate and *need* to get chips, even if it means you have to get lucky to do so. You pretty much need to get all in and double up before the blinds hit you again.

re: advice on final table poker With that short stack you can pretty much go with any cards IMO. But you dont want to go if someone has re-raised in front of you, then its probably better to wait one hand. My question is, how did you let yourself get that shortstacked in the first place? Was ITM the final table?

started final table with 11000 blinds were 1600-800, basically I just did not get a hand for the first hour I mean literally the best I had was A3o, I could have gone AI with that as there was about 5 players behind me but I just felt it was not strong enough. I will push with many hands but really I think they must be something like if you get a caller with A3o then your just playing with one card. At the start I was not overly short as the range for the players was 30000 down to 6000. What does ITM mean sorry I dont know...the sniper

ITM means In The Money. I think 11,000 with 1,600-800 blinds is already short. Final table is kind of a special situation, but depending on the structure you usally want to get top 3. If the play on the table is very crazy with lots of action then you might want to try to find a playable hand, but if everyone is just waiting each other out, then I would say go for it. Gamble, push, steal blinds. Sure you will be a dog every time someone calls, but you will add more than 20% to your stack every time they fold, and even if they call you are very seldom without chances. If you just wait and wait you might manage to get 7th or even 6th, but what good is that when the real money usally goes to the winner?

in that situation, i would have called with a suited A or K. im trying to win the thing. J6 even suited is an easy fold there as has been said. you have to gamble yes, but barring a decent pair a suited A or K works for me. you cant presume your opponent always has you beat.. for example, live tourney yesterday, we down to 15 players blinds 500/1000. i have 8k left. im in sb.. big stack(easily 30k makes it 2500 to go. i look down at pocket 10s. i go allin. guy to my left goes allin. big stack folds and shows his AJ...guy that called my allin has AK. he flops an A. the end. BUT..all you can is get your money good or as good as you can and hang on. best of luck to you!

re: advice on final table poker Thanks guys for all the great advice, I think if I'm anything like short again I'm going to start shoving if I'm first in with anything, the amount of times this doesn't get called makes it worthwhile. The money got paid out to the top three basically, I think £600,£400,£200 I'm just pissed off because if I'd have got a hand I'd have done this but i may have to chance my arm more often. The worse thing was I'd entered another tournament and had to play immediately after the first one I couldn't stop thinking about the one I'd just bombed out of and came out early I think I'd left all my energy on the FT to play two tournaments one after the other is tough what do you guys think?
