I think it was Barry Greenstein (who is a brm nit) suggests something like having 300 big bets (so $1800 for $3/6)
I've heard 100 big bets much more often, but I personally wono't move to $1/2 until I have about $300. With $500 you can get away with 2/4, but I'd probably settle myself in 1/2 for awhile |

I would personally see how you fair at different levels and then play the level your more comfortable with playing. I did play $1 $2 limit ages ago (2/3 years ago). I tried $3 $6 and did not like it too much.
You will find the level your best at. |

re: 500.00 BR,Limit holdem question..... poker
300BB is the often quoted amount. If you can replenish your bankroll with money outside of poker, 300BB or even 200BB is fine. If you want a self-sustaining roll, then 500BB is a better choice. I've had many 50+ BB wins as well as 50+ BB losses in single sessions. It doesn't take much for a long downswing to eat through 150BB.
It also matters if you are willing to step down limits or not. If you are playing on a shorter roll, you should be more willing to drop down a limit (so you have 300BB+ for the new limit). |

If you're a pro or want to become one, get in the habit of having 500 big bets or more ready for play. 6 months living expenses saved in the bank just to be safe. But if you aren't trying to be the next Phil Ivey, and you can reload or are willing to move down if you hit a rough spot, 300 or even 200 big bets is fine. If you are a losing player, no amount of big bets will save you, so make sure you are always working on your game too.
One often overlooked aspect of bankroll is rakeback and bonuses. Make sure you take full advantage. |
