| Where did you read that a 3bet only applies to limit? there is no difference except for the size of the bets. A 3bet preflop would be a raise and then a reraise. post flop there would have to be a bet, a raise then a reraise. No matter what game you are plaing typically it means they have a very strong hand. They are much easier to play against in limit because the the third bet is very small compared to the size of the pot so if you made the reraise then there is no folding for you. in NL it is a much different story because you are usually facing a very large bet. in limit I wouldnt put it past someone to 3bet a strong draw or top pair strong kicker so these dont need to be taken as seriously as in NL |

| i read it only applies to limit in an online article somwhere. so for instance if utg raises and a player raises behind them is this a 3bet ? or does it have to be re-raised again for it to be a 3bet ? bit confused about 'third bet' thing the 3 means 'third bet' or 'third raise' is this correct what about 3 players left button raises sb folds bb 3bets button '2nd raise' bit confused Last edited by tcummo : 27th September 2010 at 4:54 PM. |

| nonono... right let me start from the begenning the 1 bet is the big blind because its raising the small blind, the 2 bet is the initial opening raise because they are raising the big blind, and the 3 bet is someone who re raises the initial raise (the 2 better) also 3 betting is re raising the first bet on the turn flop or river. you can also 4 bet and so on and on but the 5 bet in no limit is usually all in. Hope this all helped. |

| no 3 bet represents a strong hand but there is also something called 3 betting light that you will come across as you move up limits. 3 betting light is 3 betting someone with a big range of hands trying to steal the pot or represent a big hand but this is just a brief explination of it Move Beyond the Hand Chart: 3-bets & 4-bets preflop in No Limit Hold'em Cash Games |

An aggressive player might 3-bet with smaller pairs, or even suited connectors. |

Are you not the player who is, and I quote, "For those that don't know, Kountess is a well-known poker professional here in Las Vegas, has made a fortune both online and at the live tables, both in cash games and tournaments. She has made her fortune from her ability to read other players' hands." ?? Because if you are this same person, then I am astounded and amazed that you didn't know that 3-bet was (is) a poker term. Or was zingbust just full of shite? And now we return to your regularly scheduled thread... |

1) The stacks between the 2-bettor and 3-bettor are deep enough to warrant a triple 2) the 3-bettor is not paying attention to stack sizes and is leaving no fold equity behind, or, 3) It is a tottaly cards based play (KK, AA) and they are doing it wrong. IMHO, if you are going to 3-bet in a shallow stack game, or against more than just the initial raiser and re-raiser (early limpers bloating the pot), you should make your 3-bet an all in. Otherwise you are just asking for a headache on the flop when you only have 500 left to bet into a 3500 pot. |
