| Which sites accept PayPal? Hi guys. I have recently wound down trading on e.bay and have a ton of cash in my PayPal account and instead of withdrawing it all to my bank account I thought about maybe using some to start a new bankroll on a different poker site. I have been thinking about opening a new one since starting on Stars, I never realised how much difference it makes having a change of scenery! Now I know Tilt and Stars dont accept paypal, but do any other sites? Ladbrokes (UK) do but it doesn't run fast enough on my laptop, I can only use the casino and that costs me more than I can afford!!! lol. If none accept it I might just open another on my card, dont feel overly comfortable giving my details online though. Thanks. |

| Interesting that Ladbrokes takes PayPal since Paypal is totally against the service being used for gambling services (I guess that is for USA only) Anyway, apparently Bwin and Betfair take it also |

| Read the TOS for Paypal on your account. It may be different in the UK than in the US, but our version here in the US specifically states that Paypal may NOT be used for funding any gambling/gaming activities. If Paypal Security should detect usage in violation of their agreement, they can close your account without notice and lock the funds for 6 months. Here is the applicable section the US version under their "Acceptable Use Policy": "Prohibited Activities You may not use the PayPal service for activities that: 1 - 4 [snipped] 5. involve gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize, including, but not limited to casino games, sports betting, horse or greyhound racing, lottery tickets, other ventures that facilitate gambling, games of skill (whether or not it is legally defined as a lottery) and sweepstakes unless the operator has obtained prior approval from PayPal and the operator and customers are located exclusively in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted by law." |

| I'd advise against using Paypal for deposits onto online poker sites. A friend of mine tried it onto PS, and Paypal froze his account pending "investigation of fraudulent use" or some weird terminology like that. |

| re: Which sites accept PayPal? poker Well, in the UK there is Mint.co.uk, which pretty much functions in the same way that the Simon Gift Card does here in America. It's a pre-paid gift card that works as a debit card and should work when depositing to poker sites. |

| i don't understand why Paypal works that way and frooze your account if you take your money for pokersite. It's none of their business if we want to take our money for playing poker, is it their account or ours. Sorry but i don't think they are really fair by acting that way. |

Paypal is used for a lot more than just online gambling and they are not going to risk having this happen so they monitor their US accounts very closely for gambling activity and act quickly. If your gov't lets you gamble online then Paypal will probably work for you at sites they are affiliated with. The only other option Paypal has is to stop accepting US customers, like Click2Pay and others have, or cut their affiliations with online gambling sites. Much better for us they just enforce the TOA. |

Since it shows you are from Canada, you may not be aware that Paypal's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits using funds for any gambling activities. It certainly is within their right to do so as all Paypal Users in the U.S. MUST agree to these policies in order to maintain a Paypal account. -------------------------------------------------------- (from Paypal's website) PayPal Acceptable Use Policy This Policy was last modified on June 3, 2009. You are independently responsible for complying with all applicable laws in all of your actions related to your use of PayPal's services, regardless of the purpose of the use. In addition, you must adhere to the terms of this Acceptable Use Policy. Prohibited Activities You may not use the PayPal service for activities that: 1.violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation 2.relate to sales of (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (d) items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance, or the financial exploitation of a crime, (e) items that are considered obscene, (f) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (g) certain sexually oriented materials or services, (h) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (i) ,certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law 3.relate to transactions that (a) show the personal information of third parties in violation of applicable law, (b) support pyramid or ponzi schemes, matrix programs, other “get rich quick” schemes or certain multi-level marketing programs, (c) are associated with purchases of annuities or lottery contracts, lay-away systems, off-shore banking or transactions to finance or refinance debts funded by a credit card, (d) are for the sale of certain items before the seller has control or possession of the item, (e) are by payment processors to collect payments on behalf of merchants, (f), are associated with the sale of traveler’s checks or money orders, (h) involve currency exchanges or check cashing businesses, or (i) provide certain credit repair or debt settlement services 4.involve the sales of products or services identified by government agencies to have a high likelihood of being fraudulent 5.violate applicable laws or industry regulations regarding the sale of (a) tobacco products, or (b) prescription drugs and devices 6.involve gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize, including, but not limited to casino games, sports betting, horse or greyhound racing, lottery tickets, other ventures that facilitate gambling, games of skill (whether or not it is legally defined as a lottery) and sweepstakes unless the operator has obtained prior approval from PayPal and the operator and customers are located exclusively in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted by law. |

And it should also be noted as a technical detail, for probably the billionth time, that playing online poker is not illegal in the US unless you happen to live in one of the few states that have passed their own laws against it (KY being one, can't recall the other one or two). There is no federal law against playing poker online -- however there are laws against operating the gambling sites on US soil, as well as the UIGEA legislation barring banks and other financial institutions (e.g. PayPal) from funding online gambling, hence PayPal not being an option for any US account holder. Those of you who may be long-time PayPal customers like myself might remember the legal trouble they got into during their early years, when they tried to disclaim bank/financial institution status, and were sued. The courts decreed that PayPal was in fact considered a financial institution, and had to be run and regulated as such. As others point out, PayPal takes their TOS violations very seriously, and will not hesitate to freeze funds and close accounts. So I'd think twice about even trying them, including their debit card, if you live in the US. |
