Prepaid VISA debit cards?

Hey, I have deposited with a prepaid VISA debit card before, I know you can buy them at some stores, you buy for example a 100 dollar card that you can use anywhere like a real visa and once the 100 dollars are gone, the card doesnt work. Im not sure if you can still deposit with these but I know I did less than a month ago. Maybe something to look into if you cant deposit anymore. Still need to find a way to withdraw though, but most sites will send you a check in the mail I here.

You are correct, sir. I can purchase them at my local grocery store. Although, now that I think about it, those are American Express.

I actually got the card as a gift for christmas, but I will ask the person who gave me it in the morning where they got it. I know you can buy them at certain stores. Wal-Mart is a guess that comes into my head, but Im not sure. I will get back to you. I know there is a service charge for buying one, but it is very small, 1 or 2 dollars, unless you live in california which is where the person bought it.

I don't think this will work and those of you who try it may be disappointed, I don't know about other sites but I know pokerstars doesn't accept credit/debit through western union.
If this service is offered by visa, then in a sense is it not a credit card that you reload/purchase?

But that's the thing. It's actually more like a cash card, since you've already actually paid for it. They are not "loaning" you anything, thusly they are not at any risk of losing any money; they've already got it. So in that sense, I could see how that would work. But, just to be safe, buy a smaller denomination card first for anyone that wants to try it.

Yes, it's like a universal gift card.

But I just thought of something: If you deposit it as a Visa, how would you withdraw it? There's no real debit account to credit. Poker sites like to require that you withdraw the same method as you deposit. I wonder how that would work.

Well, after looking around on different forums, I have seen that some people say the prepaid visa cards work, while others say they dont work. I have heard more than one person say they work on ultimate bet still and have heard mixed reports from full tilt poker. I might buy one this weekend and give it a try. I will let you guys know what happens if I do.

You can find out a place that sells them near you here. http://visa.via.infonow.net/locator/...rigin=personal

They should not work - they are still issued by Visa. Visa issuers do not permit them to be used at online gambling sites because of the inability to verify age online. If the charge is disputed the issuer can be held responsible for it and they don't want that risk. With those being issued directly by Visa Int'l I would be surprised if the transaction was approved when submitted because it means the poker site is willing to take the hit if there is a problem. Most of them learned that lesson in the past couple of years and stopped taking Visa debit and credit cards as a method of payment in the US. It had nothing to do with the recent issues.

Update

I was able to successfully deposit on PokerStars last night (01/19).

I will attempt Full Tilt later today.

I purchased mine at Wilson Farms convenience store. I know for a fact that Walgreens sells a version.

The one I used is call the "All Access Gift Card" by Visa--- you can search for merchants at their web site www.allaccessgift.com (also where you need to register the card to use it to use via web or phone).

As far as withdrawal goes, you can always request a check. I will probably set up a Click-to-Pay or other e-wallet account in the near future however.

Thanks for letting us know that works - it should be an easy alternative for some people.

second update

Just wanted to let everyone know that the prepaid visa worked for Full Tilt as well.
Please note that the minimum deposit was $50 for both sites.
I should also point out that you have to type in the "www" on the allaccessgift web site.

Okay, I don't normally make deposits to online sites, but the whole pre-paid card thing got me interested. Besides I had one sitting in my wallet that needed to be used. So I looked into it. The key here is registration. Those pokers sites do address verification on the cards when you try to deposit and mine failed for that exact reason (because mine doesn't have address registration available on it at all from the vendor). The address they ask for needs to match on the other end.

So I think some of this will be hit or miss depending on how the cards are issued and by who. Thanks for the links/info.

You can request a check. It takes a while, and some sites charge a fee for this, but it's still a viable alternative.

It is so refreshing to see you people trying to cash out your money when some are so desperatly trying to win some.
This might help you "enjoy" your problems.
Think positive !!

My Deposit at PokerStars

My deposit was through a recent addition to the PokerStars Deposit methods.
Called UseMyBank..using just a regular Bank Debit card.
It was a horrific nightmare for me, but there were some basic things I over-looked in the process as it tends to get complicated very quickly.
First you need to Register with UseMyBank and give them your Bank Name and account # and the necessary Name Address Ph.# etc. and name PokerStars as the Account recipient.
Then they call you to to verify, or give you a encrypted code to enter online.
Second you need to Register with Your personal Banking Institution, and Add UseMyBank 'Specific' Payee. (Online Banking if you have that.)The name they give is a Specific (Not 'UseMy Bank').
Then You have to be absolutely certain that the Information at Your Bank, PokerStars, and 'UseMyBank' are exact in every detail.
Then You Deposit at PokerStars Using the Deposit method in the Cashier section of the Main Lobby. Clicking on UseMyBank as the choice. Then enter in the Amount and Currency of your country..converts to U.S. Dollars and check the box I agree to terms and conditions..etc.
**Last Thing...make sure your area of your IP Address is in the Region where you Live.
I was Visiting Family, in a different region and tried a depsoit. I also put the Ph.# of where I was at, and not my Home Ph.# at UseMyBank..which created alother problem (X2) mistake.
And PokerStars bounced my Deposit because of the IP was out of my Home Address area...go figure..(wireless-Laptop beware!!)
But PokerStars support Staff helped immensely for about 1 hr. to resolve my issues. And My Deposit got completed..

It was Hellish to say the least, but the greatest comfort I had was in the fact that it was so complex of a procedure and the Security measures that were in place, it is good to know that each party poker involved ensures no ill-misfortures are being done to affect either party poker concerned.
But that is the learning curve of making a 'First time Deposit'
It was a real comfort to have a PokerStars Support in a Chat format 'Live' to help me out. They are Really Awesome there!
I had tried for - 3 days in Total to make - 1 Deposit.

~ I know this all sounds like a TON of hassle, but if this is the only means that you have to Deposit and want to.. then I hope this makes it a bit easier to deal with when your attemp is made~
Good Luck! Hope this has helped.

*Final Note.. To Withdraw from the Site a Check Request is the best and most Reliable way to get your Money out. Which takes about 10 working days max. As PokerStars is Located in the U.K. and through the Regular Post not Courier or Priority, So In North America thats about how long you can expect to wait.*

My 2 cents

Here is my 2 cents. Contact the particular Poker site you wish to play via E-Mail or phone and arrange a payment - withdrawal method with the cashier/support. Most sites will be happy to do however you feel best.

I play PokerStars Absolute Ultimatebet Full Tilt and Poker4Ever. I haven't had a problem sending or receiving $$$.

If I win $15M, that Brinks truck driving up to my home will be a site - lol.

What kind of VISA was it? Some types won't work. It has to be an All-Access VISA or I think Gift2Go VISAs work. Greendot VISAs do not.

You should be able to do it using the VISA option. Try it again, and see if it works. I know of at least one case where someone tried to use it, didn't work, then went back again and it did.

There seems to be a difference between the All Access VISA gift card, and the reloadable All Access VISA.

The gift cards work usually. I think it was just last weekend I got one and it did not work the first time I tried it. It did work a few hours later.

I don't remember ever reading about the reloadable ones working, but if it doesn't work the first time, it won't hurt to try it again.

some prepaid cards state for US purchases only. All access has worked for me for awhile. You MUST go to the website after you buy it and tie the card to your name and address before you can use it for online purchases. if you put in the card# and security code, it might come up invalid if you JUST bought it, but if you call CS theyll activate it over the phone.
