You could try e-mailing their customer service to find out. PokerStars started added checks back into their deposit methods, but they didn't give it to everyone. Instead, iirc, they started allowing use by members based on earned FPPs or some such thing. Anyway though, never hurts to ask support.

re: instant check on fulltilt poker I have that option, but Full Tilt Poker sent me it via an e-mail offer (beta) about 5 weeks ago. I would guess it will eventually be available to all soon.

I have this option available, but I had a deposit history before they rolled it out in beta, and I was given the option to try it out while they were still testing. If you haven't deposited with them before, they probably won't allow it. There is a lot of risk with echecks, and so they most likely want to make sure you are reputable first. Certainly no harm in asking support though. Alternatively, why not ask your friend if they would be willing to do an echeck deposit to their account and transfer it to you? Moneygram is also an easy way to deposit, but it will cost you $9.95 in MG fees.
