The Super Duper Video Compression Tutorial
As requested, here is the link to the tutorial. You will see that if you consider the file size and the quality of the video, it is absolutely outstanding. I have seen other videos get to the 2mb/minute area, but they are almost universally unwatchable and don't have any audio.
The ZIP file is 50mb, it has the AVI version of a sample 35 second video (38mb), the same video as a 35 second MOV file (2.1mb), and the compression tutorial video. The Compression Tutorial Video is 5 minutes long, at 800x600 dimension size, and is 10.8mb in size total. And it's darn near crystal clear in video and audio - so enjoy, and if you like the video please let me know, that way I know I didn't do it for nothing!!! ![]() LINK: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service Enjoy! |

"the file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable"
![]() edit: nevermind! Downloading fine now ![]() Thanks for this icemonkey - this could make videos multiple times more popular here on CC with the file size. I hate quicktime, but I'll manage it ![]() |

That might be because:
a) my cat jumped on me while recording the audio b) I used my webcam as my microphone c) some weird ZIP compression error or file transfer error Not sure. Plays fine on my work computer and home computer (both in different geographical places. Anyways, hopefully you get the gist and we can see better videos from all, and I do think if people take some time to learn this quick technique, we'll see a boat load of new videos. |

Camtasia is pretty expensive, huh?
I use a free video capture program called CamStudio. It does not have the option to record in MOV format, but I can choose from the following: Microsoft Video 1 DivX MPEG-4 Low-MotionDivX MPEG-4 Fast-MotionMicrosoft MPEG-4 VKI Codec V1 Microsoft MPEG-4 VKI Codec V3 Microsoft MPEG-4 VKI Codec V3 DivX Codec 4.12 DivX 6.8 Codec )1 Logical CPU) XviD MPEG-4 Codec Helix Yv12YUV Codec ffdshow Video Codec Perhaps you can recommend one? |

Yeah I tried out CamStudio, I was wholly disappointed in the ability to not use the new DiVX 6.8 codec with it. I installed the codec (in addition to the h.264 codec) and each time I tried encoding the video with one of those two, the program would crash.
If you can get the DivX 6.8 to work, then GREAT. Tht should be the best one. I'd be curious to see how the XviD MPEG-4 would do too. |

I tried the XviD MPEG-4 without sound at 630x450. I recorded three minutes of beautiful video and the file ended up being 2.8MB. My laptop is pretty old (I turned off video compression) but didn't have performance issues. |
