All round pretty good. The AJh hand is not good imo. Firstly calling the raise is bad because potentially your A is no good or the J, so you're shooting for two pair or a flush which is pretty rare. Calling the all-in, well, you were getting quite good odds but clearly behind.

Also, you're throwing away alot of pairs where you have implied odds to call.

Yep, I still haven't grasped that yet. Right now, I'm reading a chapter in a book on "Effective Implied Odds". Maybe it will help me wrap my head around calling a raise with a pair of 8's in MP.

Can you recall an example of what I did so I can work on it? Thx

I have the video downloaded at work (at home now) but I think there are a pair of 8's and maybe 2's that you fold pf when you are deep enough to call playing for set value. I'll check it out tomorrow and find the examples.

Also with the AJ hand I meant that even if you hit your J for TPTK it may not be good, as is the case in the hand in your vid.

JJ's hand and 9's hand. You fold both to a raise in front of you. You're deep enough to call here looking for the set. These and other small pair hands are goldmines because the set is so well disguised and if the flop comes A high you'll get great value from TPTK type hands.

The JJ hand is the one I remember. I think you were in the blinds, raised, with a caller. 90% of the time I reraise there, but you said the original raiser was very tight, so at least call. I've probably folded JJ, but I can't remember it, but then I tend to have aggression problems.

Thanks guys. You're both right. I need to work on this. But man, I just hate when I call those, don't hit the flop, and an overcard is there. I feel like I've wasted $1 or more by calling the raise and rolling the dice. I feel like I could use that $1 better in a better position or to bluff someone later or something. I guess I need to study up on these situations and how all the odds work to justify a preflop call there. I haven't yet grasped it myself. Thanks again.

Dude, blind steal risks ~4BB to win 1.5BB. Playing for sets costs ~4BB and can win you ~100. Let's not get into the frequency of success for either but you get my point. Poker tracker might be able to provide the stats on this actually.

JJ hand, call PF, call flop, jam/fistpump turn

"Don't like raising for info" - I used to be like this, and then I played a ton of heads-up, and now find it soooo useful in cash games. Sprinkling some LAG on my 25NL+ ring games really lets me dominate more than I've ever felt.
