London Trip Report. (with pictures)
This is going to be short and sweet. Anyway, we headed over to London last weekend to meet up with a few of Cardschat finest. Myself and Tracy headed over on Friday and met up with Dakota-xx her husband Joe, and cardschat blogger Fredric Paullson and his wife Lori. Friday night was a fairly quiet affair, and we had some dinner in the hotel, and FP headed to bed (sick) early, we had a few quiet drinks in the hotel and then bed
![]() Saturday morning, Irexes and his wife Anne arrived as did Chris (Dorkus) and we headed into the tower of London to take in some historical sights. The highlight for me being the swords and guns part, somehow i think that the highlight for the girls was the crown jewels. In fairness looking at diamonds the size of golfballs made me feel decidely poor ! Then we went drinking for the rest of the day. Headed into Convent garden for some eats, one of the strangest experiences i have ever had in a restaurant. Pure OTT decor and an operatic theame, beautiful food but the look on Debi's face when she got back from the toilets was priceless. The toilets were adorned with hand drawn porn (yes complete with willies We had one drink in a local bar before deciding that it was too loud and we headed back to the hotel, for more beers. Nice evening had by all, complete with FP's hilarious 20 minute speech about computer programming ![]() All in all great trip and nice to be able to put some faces to the names, everyone was sound, and we all got on well. Pic attached is at the tower of London. |

Was great to meet everyone and to be fair to FP I did ask about his programming work.
I felt that getting out a flipchart and powerpoint to explain was a tiny bit of overkill, but I did ask. A great time and genuinely fantastic to meet you all (your posts all now have accents when I read them which is nice). As you may be able to tell from the second picture I had had a drop or two to drink. Chris and I had returned from our joint visit to the toilet when the photo was taken so I was both drunk and shocked at what I had just seen (insert joke here). Suffered a fair bit on the Sunday as a result of the revelry, though slept on the train til we got home which was handy. Anne was appropriately sympathetic to my plight (ie not at all). Looking forward to doing it again and as it was the first time meeting people "for real" who I have got to know on line, delighted to find you all as interesting and excellent as I had imagined you to be. |

FP, truly you are credible and superb.
I don't know if you were having trouble with my Essex brogue, but given that a) I had a fair bit to drink and b) even when sober "H" and "T" are letters I consider optional I suspect it can't have been exactly easy. If it's any consolation not understanding what I'm saying is probably a blessing. As for Tenbob who has a most awesome Irish accent , I swiftly decided correct etiquette was to say "What?" or "Huh?" if in doubt. I suspect that like me he really wouldn't object. Also have to say that even the small bits of poker discussion we had were highly enjoyable and I hope that at some point in the future we get the opportunity to all play a game together (even if it's when FP jr is a year or two old ). |

I so wish I could have been there and met you all. I know what an uproarously good time we have just chatting on MSN when we get the chance, that being able to actually sit with you all over a pint would have been grand (pornographic toilets not-withstanding)! If you do indeed make this an annual affair, I shall try my very best to somehow make it over the pond, if only just to meet you fine folk.
Freddie, I love your discertation of the weekend. Especially the part about smiling and nodding.... ![]() Mrs Irexes! Good to see you! ![]() |

FP, re: the smiling and nodding, between all your wacky foreign (and cockney and scouse, although they fall under 'foreign' imo) accents I only understood about two words that any of you said all day, so don't feel too bad about it imho.

Great blog Fredric! And don't worrry about not understanding everything - that happens to me every time I go over. The Irish is the hardest.
Richard - maybe you can join us next year. We will be meeting up about this same time of year. Tammy - you have a year to plan! Or.. maybe we can get a few of these people over for the Vegas 2009 Cardschat party Nick keeps talking about. Mrs Irexes - welcome to Cardschat! I knew we could get you in here, even if it is just for a few posts. Don't mind that Irexes guy talking about post count spamming - I know a lot more about that than he does! What a great weekend! I was especially happy for the "regulars" - Dakota, Irexes, Dorkus, Tenbob and FP - who have known each other literally for years and got to meet face-to-face for the first time. But the fact that the "other halves" - me, Ann (Mrs Irexes - a BIG welcome to CC!!), Lori and Tracy were there too made it even more of a special, shared event, IMO.
They actually got to meet the other guys and girls that their partners spend over half of their lives with! It could not have gone better. Really nice, fun people and it was so easy and relaxed - amazing. Having met my own wonderful mod on-line, I am a big believer in internet friendships - and this is another huge confirmation of that. FP - great blog! As Irexes said, don't be worried about saying "Huh?" - that was Debi's every other word for the first two years we were together! Thanks again to everyone for a great weekend - can't wait for the next one! |

It's nice to put faces to the names, TB surprised me though I was expecting a wild irishman, something like Billy Conolly, Glad you all had a good time.
