HELP!!

I've only been playing on line poker for a few monts and would LOVE to hear from some of you who are a bit more experianced as to what to do!!?? I played my very first ever cardschat freeroll this past Wed. evening, OK, And on the very first hand of the game, I am dealt a 10s-Ks--I am fairly early in the hand (1st or 2nd to bet in)-check to me, I check, I think there was a min-raise which me and most others call--THEN!! Don't an As-Qs-Js get flopped!! Now, I HAVE gotten straight flushes in the past several times, and was paid off quite well! BUT it was usually well into the game and not on the flop, so playin' them was alot simpiler to do! But NEVER have I EVER gotten the highest possable hand, and especially on the flop on the first hand of the tourney!! Being so new and inexperianced, I didn't want to scare everyone out w/an all-in right away, so, I merly checked HOPING some one else would do it--no-one does, all check to me and up pops a 4s on the turn! Now what? Checks to me , I just bet twice the BB, am called by one (I think), and the river shows some off-suit sumpin', I ferget! Afraid I'll get nearly nothing w/this huge hand, I push all in and my opponent who's left, folds!! Minimum payback, and worst of all my fabulous hand I had to show!! Can anybody tell me the right way to play a power hand like that properly?? TY-Rick

I'll throw an answer out there and see if we get some of the better players here to jump all over it

My favorite way to play a flopped monster from EP is to give the impression that "ok... I hit the A, but my kicker is lousy"

Image that you have Ah-Th in mid to late position, how would you handle a player in EP doing the following:

min bet... at any point,if everyone folds, oh well you weren't going to make anything anyway.
I often get callers... sometimes the PF better will raise... if so pause, pause, pause, flat call. (not a long annoying pause...just a "hmmmmm....oh ok, my kicker is a spade...I guess I'll call" pause)

If no-one raised my min bet on the flop, I come out with 1.5 ~ 2 min bet again.
If someone raised, I'll either min bet again, or check...and 3x re-raise any raise if more than 1 caller before it comes back to me otherwise 2x the raise.

If anyone is still left, 2.5~3 min bet the river....any re-raise, push

1. Playing K/T out of position early in a tournament is questionable.
2. The bigger your hand the less likely it is to have helped the other guy. He was probably on a straight or flush draw and missed. Hence, getting any money out of him would have been difficult.
3. Thank you for calling it a straight flush rather than a Royal Flush. Seriously, I like that.

You are going to get paid off, or your not. If you dont check and let someone draw to a second better hand to hold on to, or give them the impression they have the best hand already your not going to for sure by betting, so check.

That flop scared everyone, you can only hope the board runner runner pair/trips to give someone a boat they cannot get away from.

First off, Congrat's on the Royal and Welcome to CC!

Poker Pete said it great. Here's my take on basically the same tactic. Minimum bet each step, if some one raise pause a bit and slowly call to give the impression ya aren't sure. Do it all the way to the river and then try to figure out just how much they'll call by how they've bet so far. Sometimes you'll get several callers even when all in while playing freerolls, esp early in the game.

GL to ya!

you are not going to get paid off the way you would like to let alone an all in on the river. think about it, the next best hand possible is if they are holding a 9s. you're NOT going to induce a bluff either on the river, because they called your turn bet w/ four spades already, unless you got good read on your opponent that he can make a play on the river. in conclusion, bet about 3xbb for value vs the villain's baby flush on the river

a spade on the turn is the worst possible card for you, so it was going to be very difficult getting chips from your opponents. i personally would of bet that flop to begin with.
