How can they possibly ever find out? Just join a heads-up table and I am sure they don't monitor all heads up tables 24/7 just incase it might happen.

Here's one we can scratch (sort of): Paradise Poker. According to the support person I chatted with, Paradise does not even offer freerolls with cash prizes. All of their freerolls are satellites for seats in larger tournaments. (I would paste the email, but I have a new service and I haven't quite gotten the hang of saving messages yet, so it went poof.)
_______
k paradise got the beginners freeroll where they pay real money

I would contact support, as every site has their own policies. (And please turn off your CAPS, it would be much appreciated... ) Let us know what Bodog says.

Very informative, many thanks.

As far as the Bodog Freeroll tournaments are concerned this should clear it up for anyone who was wondering:

List

Dude, i'm really pissed off with this freeroll stuff... Yesterday I won 3 dollars in Everest Poker and they told me that I had to make a deposit to certify that i'm a depositing player, so, after that, they would give me the prize to use in real money game or other tournaments...

Do you know the Poker rooms that allow a freeroll winning player use the prize without have to depositi any kind of money?

Cheers

That was pretty informative, as far the raked hands go. I wasn't aware that you had to do so much in order to cash out, nor did I know if you deposit before playing all those steps dont apply. Thanks for the tip, that will definately make me think twice about playing in anymore freerolls if I havent already deposited.

PS. Does it matter how long ago you've deposited, or does it have to be a recent deposit in order to cash out immediately??

I won a seat to a real money tournament from a freeroll on Poker Host before they switched over to Tribeca.

I won $459 in the real money tournament.

I had no clue about the deposit requirements before I won it.

Poker Host's raked hand requirements were absurb (5x/$1) not to mention their definition of a raked hand SUCKS.

Flash forward to the post Tribeca switch.

I had to choose another PH screen name as I had registered the same name through Doyle's Room. PH switched my cash balance over to my new name.

I didn't ask and they didn't say anything about the raked hand requirements.

Now PH is switching to Microgaming which has banned my state.

I call to verify this information and then request a cashout. Nothing was mentioned about the promotional money. The last time I had checked I still had $300 to clear.

Long story short, I got my whole balance less the service charge.

Lucky me.

I think if your going to play freerolls at a particular site regularly, you should definitely make the minimum deposit. Especially if the site offers a decent size prize pool. Its too easy to lose all your winnings in cash games if you dont have a decent bankroll to play the required hands and release the funds. Better off making a deposit and then u have more choices for your winnings!

very informative

Yes. I think this post should be dispalyed to those maniacs who play like well, maniacs in freerolls. I have seen them chatting like 'big deal, go all in, this is afreeroll anyway' and so on. I hope reading this post will atleast deter them from playing crazy all-ins everyhand. And start playing a game which everyone can enjoy.

As far PP concerned, well their 50 dollar freerolls normally have 2000 players. Even the regular cash tables there seem to be a little crazy.

I wonder why not the poker rooms offer freerolls more on a loyalty basis rather than ass 'a open house'

Good luck at the table to all of you..and beware of the bots ..lol.

They do offer on a loyalty basis its just they need the micro freerolls to get the punters through the door

take stars they offer 100k freerolls and 20k freerolls but only to supernovas and platinum gold etc

If you want to play a decent game put on a deposit and play for real cash or if you cant its freeeeeeee what more do you want

I started off in freerolls and lost the money every time because it is not real poker played in them u have to deposit to get a poker game anywhere near good enuff to become a winning player

A Sesperite Message

Here's some hard-earned wisdom that I wish someone had passed along to me when I first started playing online poker. Hope it helps someone else who's new to playing on the computer.

When you enter a freeroll on a poker site where you have not yet deposited any money, the winnings you accumulate are not yours. Those freeroll winnings are still the poker room's money and will remain so until you make your first real money deposit. You can go ahead and use it to play real money ring games and buy-in tournaments without making a deposit, but you cannot cash it out. Even after you make a deposit, the pre-deposit freeroll winnings, and anything you won from them, are kept separate from your deposited funds. They have to be redeemed into actual cash by playing a certain number of raked hands at a minimum level, usually $1/$2 tables.

Now, that said, here's the big picture that doesn't get talked about much. If you make the minimum deposit required at the poker site before you play the freeroll, it's all cash money. It's your money, and it's immediately available for whatever you choose to do with it. Let it sit, play real money ring games, play buy-in tournaments, cash it out...whatever. It's yours. But if you make your first deposit after the freeroll you just won, the treadmill of having to "earn back" your freeroll prize kicks in.

Example: I placed second in a Cardschat freeroll tournament at Poker Host and "won" $78. I had not made a real money deposit. It is now necessary for me to make a deposit, and begin to play at the $1/$2 tables where I will be credited $1 of my freeroll prize for every 5 raked hands in which I am an active participant after the flop. That's 390 raked hands. Not counting the ones I see from the big blind or fold before the turn (which don't apply). I'll probably have to sit in for 3 times that number of hands to get involved in that many rakes. Just so I can convert the $78 I've already won into real, withdrawable money. If I had only been savvy enough to make the meager $25 minimum depost before our freeroll, the $78 would already be mine, free and clear.

The moral of the story? If you really want to play freerolls and enjoy the fruits of your labor, you must make the minimum deposit on the poker site before you sit down. Otherwise, you're just playing for the sheer fun of it and the prizes don't mean squat to you. And remember, you don't have to play real money games just because you made a deposit. You can let the minimum sit there if you like, and play freerolls exclusively. (If there are any sites that post a "minimum activity" requirement, I'm not aware of them.) If you decide you don't like the site, you can always withdraw your original deposit and go elsewhere. But any freeroll winnings in the meantime will truly be yours, without all the hassle.

And, as always, READ THE RULES & REQUIREMENTS on each site before making a deposit. That's just a given!

Thanks for the info!! Does that rule still apply if you made a deposit when you initially started playing, and currently have no funds in the bank? I started playing several months back, and made deposits, and decided to take a break from breaking my bank account. So, what would be my position on cashing out on any $$ won?
