u will be mistaken my friend
he would only sit with 5% of his roll in a cash game, he would leave if he ended up sitting with 10% of his roll at the table
he would iinvest invest 2.5% of his roll in a tourny
10% is way too high

he did get it up to something close to 25K but he is back down to like 13K

Here's the link to fallow his progress. Surf around a study what he's doing and it might help. I went from 0 to 12 bucks then bust. Then from 0 to 30 bucks then bust. Trying to start over again now. I get a little better at it each time. Any way here's the link to watch Cris' progress.

You right about his stratagy but he went to like 27 k and he's back down to aroun 9 k now
This is a quote from FT on his stratagy
  • He never buys into a cash game or a Sit & Go with more than 5 percent of his total bankroll (there is an exception for the lowest limits: he is allowed to buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less).
  • He doesn’t buy into a multi-table tournament for more than 2 percent of his total bankroll, but he’s allowed to buy into any multi-table tournament that costs $1.
  • If at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represents more than 10 percent of his total bankroll, he must leave the game when the blinds reach him.
Click on the link I posted and it shows a graph of his streak

those FTilt Freerolls must be tough when even CF cant beat them..........
As you can see on the next chart, getting started wasn’t easy. In fact, it took more than seven months of steady play until he got his bankroll to stabilize at about $6.50.

maybe there isn't such a huge gap between the best and the rest?

Boss Network has some very easy and quick ones (just over 2 hours to win), but with smaller prize pools. And the same goes for Pacific Poker. The Full Tilt freerolls are just about the worst value out there...

As a comparison - so far this year I've finished 5th and 17th in the daily Mansion Poker freerolls, and won $40 (30+10). 2000-3000 players, and only 30 get paid (so basically the same structure as Full Tilt). But even 30th place gets $8. So if you do make it ITM, it's actually worth it. (Although it does take almost as long as Full Tilt.)
Do you know any US friendly sites that have good freerolls like that? I've played FT, Absolute, Bodog, Ultimatebet, and PlayersOnly freerolls, but at the best its a $100 pool.

I'm pretty sure some of the Microgaming sites are US friendly. Try Doyles Room, maybe. All sites on that network share daily freerolls, up to $500. A LOT of entrants, but you're in the money after about 2 hours, so don't let that scare you. They drop like flies.

Didn't you notice that Bodog has a $500 and a $1000 freeroll game every day? They have had those two daily games for years, .

ah ok I think i only played one or two freerolls there and didnt remember the prize pool. But I've played more on the other sites and except for the Ultimatebet ultimate freerolls, they are ~100.

Freerolls are a waste of time. In the amount of time spent on playin a freeroll (average of 5 to 6 hours to place top 9) A minimum wage employee could make 50$, when first place only gets 15$. Hardly worth the time and effort. 3$ KO tourneys are the best in my opinion.

make your rich just playing freerolls, don't think so, but use that money winning to play on cash tables, then you can make some money.
I know I did it on FT and Bodog, when I cash out and with money from left over if I loose that money, then I have to play more freerolls and win some then play on cash tables again, never ending story.
Just dont' like to invest my hard earned money to poker, like to cash out though, .

just my $.02

I think playing freerolls is a bit like working in a warehouse - lots of people are doing it, but nobody intends to do it for the rest of their life

Patypoker has some sizable freerolls from time to time. The best one was a 50k freeroll for Nordic customers. There were 10,000 players and I finsihed inside the top 200 for 50 bucks. I think the winner got 4,700 dollars. It would be hard to say that you could get rich just playing freerolls professionally but if you concentrated enough you could probably make enough money to last you through a year in a very small apartment.

Of course some frerolls give ability to get into bigger tourneys and having gone to the 300k sunday through this way, maybe it is possible to make it as a proffesional freroll player.

Its very difficult to become rich just playing freerolls.. I read that in order to become rich by playing poker u need to quite your job.

^^^Thank you for the explanation.

To answer the question, I don't think it is possible to become rich strictly by playing freerolls. I think that if you win a few freerolls and have excellent BRM, you can build it into something. So, it is possible to build a bankroll indirectly from freerolls, but not from freeroll winnings alone. That's my take on the situation atleast.

I think it tends to work the other way around - first you win a big amount of money, then you might consider giving up your normal job and taking up poker as a career

Remember the PPT is a freeroll, if you could get invited to join in then it could be possible to get rich by freerolls. Otherwise not really although you can make a decent amount of money to start off through freerolls.

I've built a bankroll of about 300$ from freerolls, playing mostly SNGs. Here's how:

1. played the freeroll SNGs on everest poker. 10-handed limit holdem STTs that pay $0.05, $0.03 and $0.02 to the first 3. Exceedingly easy to beat even for a beginner as I was.

2. invested the winnings in extremely low buy-in SNGs (starting at $0.05+0.01) on everest, moving up limits whenever BR allowed. Went up to playing $2.5+0.25 SNGs

3. cashed out $89 from everest and moved to pokerstars so I would have a bonus. Cleared the bonus playing $5.5 SNGs

4. withdrew $200 from pokerstars and moved them to fulltilt so I have both bonus and rakeback. Currently playing $5.5 SNGs for a profit and learning at $11 SNGs

Don't think freerolls will make you rich

Freerolls will not make you rich. Their to hard to win, feilds are to big and players are to loose and many bad beats because of it. But they are good practice and if you approach it right can teach you patience and help you control tilting. If you can keep from tilting in a freeroll with all the bad players and bad beats, you never tilt in real, serious games lol.

This run defied all reasonable odds, even AA will lose to 72 off 12% of the time by the numbers. My point to this rant. Yeah he did it, but I don't believe it is very likely that anybody else ever will in that short of a time period. Good Luck in trying .
You should watch it closer cause ho only went to 10K not 100K. And he had many restarts cause he kept going bust.

Lots of it is luck with freerolls. I managed to win one to get a BR started...almost went bust with the 8$ or so playing .05/.1 games (or 1$ buy in sngs, since that is about all you can get) then had like $3 left and entered it all in a cash game and after 20 mins was at 15$, which is higher than i ever was. I could see myself getting it up quite high for sure, but i could also see myself losing it all in a few days. Point being, it is damn hard trying to build a BR from freeroll winnings, but can be done if you have time to do it. Probably depends alot on the site at which you play the freerolls. Even the 100$ fulltilt freerolls are full for several countries, and you do have to get lucky to get past 2700 ppl. I suspect you would have to move VERY slowly until you can get up till 100$$, where you can actually start to make a little money. If you try to go from 10$ to 100$ in a week you'll probably lose it all 90% of the time.

freerolls = free money to win
that attracts more people, if you beat the 5k+ people and want to win $25 its better then nothing, but private freerolls like this site would have 300+ max? with $200 up for grabs which is nice and + after playin a few weeks u probably play with the same people figuring out what they do and what not. I placed in a $500 freeroll and got like $25 worked it up to about $110 and did a tourney and lost it to a river ( with pokerstars it doesnt surprise me =/ ) but winning a freeroll with this site could potentially start a very nice bankroll i suggest if you win 100 bucks or something do $10 1 table tourneys and look for big buy ins with little amount of people thats what i did =P but im empty again and i dont feel like depositing any money for safety reasons because pokerstars has been down a few times this month

as i started i played so many freerolls.
but now i quit playing those big freerolls with 500+ players and only $50-100 winnings.
i think it isnt worth the time.
i prefer buy-ins ($3 - $10)

i dunno im from canada and pokerstars had tons of canadian freerolls and newdep cad freerolls and i have made quite a bit and bought into pleanty of small to medium tourneys placeing a few times and winning twice with a total of maybe 1000.00 but i used that money to play limit low stakes and medium n/l and pokerstars has always been good to me i havent really lost tons of money but i have cashed out a bit from its weak to average players but the worst is when u get on a table were people know each other and are talking on msn or aol about there hands its really weak if u ask me i forget what thats called but it should def be illegal and they should be banned from the site if caught
