BAD call or bad beat??? did i make mistake?

I am Delt 4 2 Suited one guy raises to 600 i am already big blind at 300 so i call.

Flop = 4 2 5

One guy bets 300
another calls 300
I raise 1000
one guy calls 1000 one folds...

Turn is a K

He goes all in
At this point i am thinking he hit his king possibly because he raised at first...

I call all in

River is a J (useless)

He shows A 3 for a straight he got on the flop
I show 2 pair

Would you make the same mistake ??? is this me playing bad or just a bad beat ???

One crucial piece of needed ionformation is how deep was your stack. if your only average to short their is no need to play this hand at all. if your deep you can play it but would play it coutiously to avoid losing a big pot with 42.

Stack sizes are vital here to make a judgement imo.

Just take ur 300 loss. Your the lucky one who hit the 4 2. You should have never called with that hand.

If you called that just because you were suited your just setting yourself up to get beat by a higher flush. I would have folded these cards and gave up the 300 big ones especially if you had an idea the guy wasnt bluffing on the raise.

sorry champ but calling the initial bet was the first mistake followed by other small mistakes.... doesnt matter if u r bb or not.... never put more chips in a pot with a 42...... just considerthat 300 bb gone.... its not in ur stack anymore.... so u virtually called another 300 in hopes of gettting just ur original 300 back

Two pair of anything is the worst. I get knocked out with two pair almost all the time. When i have two pair of conected cards it almost always fills someones straight. yes you sometimes fill the boat / but. with two four someones gonna have jj or kk in their hand and youll lose like that often enough. also small two pair get counterfeited all the time too. Any pp over cards would win with another pair on board. Small pairs are just plain dangerous to hold and call raises with. I got to think maybe he was suited a3 or he was in a good seat for position play to raise with a3, but even so , kinda a weak raise. what if an ace flops with no 3 and someone bet hard ahead of him he would have folded. So anyway if you stayed in the hand, you should have left right after the flop because a flop like that is vulnerable to pp's aa 33 ,66. Not to mention 22 44 and 55. and later with kk and jj. Theres just too many cards to avoid here / aces, 3's, two5s. 6's and whichever pp overcard the other guy had (and on a bad day maybe even 7 or 8 or 9- because some people play 56 67 78 suited). so actually the moral of the story has to be don't play crappy cards and you wont get a crappy beat. if you play ak here for instance and a 5 or 3 hits the turn or river it makes 24 a loser and ak a winner. and thats the differance. that happens to me alot, and everyone else. lol. I think maybe if we can win more of those kind of situations and lose less of them we'de all be pretty good. and the best way to do it is with good cards to start with. BUT my problem actually right now is this. I lose that very same hand with 555. So go figure.

Another piece of info that would be helpful is what position did the min raise came from. I have to agree that I most likely would fold 42, even in BB, but if I did call it, then I would factor what position he called the min raise from and most likely would only stay in the hand if the flop came 442 or 224.

Bottom line for me, 7 out of 10 flops that give me 2 pair, I LOSE! So I'm very cautious. I'm refering to free rolls, real money would net me a better result, but I'm still careful. Since it went to the river, I would have been suspicious, and probably folded as I've had this exact senario happen many times.

I would have folded to the pre flop raise.

Funny how those ace raggers luck out isn't it.

2 pair whether they are high or low bite me 7 times out of 10. They are like pockets pairs in the sense that going all-in is foolish.

I like to play suited connectors 89 and up and hate to hit an 89 on the flop as Nascar fan says that usually gets u beat. Low suiteds if you do play them I suggest not playing against raises unless you pop big on flop or get a cheap look at the turn. To the original question this is not a bad beat but a gift for the ace rag player He says thank you.

I probably would have played it the same way, but I agree that it's not a bad beat. Just a bit of a cold deck.

I tend to avoid marginal hands with bigger stacks especially with a prior raise; I would have folded here.

Thats a hard hand to lay down. You cant think someone will flop a striaght but you really shouldn't play that hand but I would have done the same thing you did.

You had an pretty good chip stack so i wouldnt have called the raise preflop, with hands like that all u do is get ur self trouble like u did.

I would call and defend your bb with what you can imagine are live cards. Once you hit 2 pair I shove allin and forgot about checkraising a trap. Just send it allin and villain would be hardpressed to call 3900 with a gutshot and one overcard.
