I use PokerStove, but more out of habit than because I've looked around very much. And yes, for anyone who wants to seriously improve their game, I think working out scenarios using pen, paper (or Excel) and a program like PokerStove is a very good way to go.

Any edge you can get in Poker is always welcome. Using an odds calculator will of course give you an edge.

I used Texas Calculatem for a while but found it was interferring with my game so I seldom use it now a days. Remember that the odds are only part of the game and you are in a better position to judge your opponents character / table image than any piece of software.

Using software that allows you to analyse your play / opponents play and helps to plug leaks in yours is of far more use IMHO, like poker tracker.

never used any of these tools, might have to look at one to see how it works. I thought they might be distracting & clutter on the screen while trying to play a game??

never liked them - its the same as having any other kind of software running with the game, i find it too distracting and doesnt help me at all.

PokerStove is not something you use while playing; you use it after a session to analyze key hands.
