WSOP question

Hello, I heard through the grapevine that next year the main event will be $25000 to enter, is that true, has it been confirmed.

Also what are the best sites and best ways to win places to be able to qualify for the wsop (any event).

Has anyone had experience in going through many qualifiers for the wsop, did you come close to making the table, or did you fall short.

I bought into the circuit event in Tunica but didn't play well. I made out like a bandit at the ring games though. Planning on going again this year just for the ring games. Nobody good is in them they are all at the circuit event.

I expect its just speculation at the moment, it may go up but then it would price out a lot of poker sites offering so many seats as well.

The EPT are going through the same thinking at the moment

If the raise the buy-in, there won't be as many players because they can barely afford the $10,000. I think they rather have a higher prize because of more players instead of higher buy-in with less players, therefore not as high of a cash prize.

I have not heard of a change to $25K for the Main Event. I heard that they want to allow anyone who has the buyin to be able to play next year. So they are planning on 12,000. If they were going to bump it to $25K, there is no way they would get 12,000 players.

I think the $25K figure is probably something some of the pros would LIKE to see, but they already have the $50K HORSE event.

Okay, so who has the stats on how many of the 8773 player actually paid $10K out of their own poket to enter the event (not counting the pros). And how many entries did PokerStars alone send? Now how many from all of the sites together? Right. I haven't heard about the increase to $25K, but I seriously doubt that the numbers will drop far enough to hurt it.

8773 player @ $10K = $87,730,000

40% of 8773 = 3509.2 @ $25K = $87,730,000 (I know you can't have .2 of a player, well except maybe for Varkony, but there is a point here, I'm sure).

With all of the won seats and satellite seats entering, I hardly doubt they will lose 60% participation off the top. And anything less than a 60% loss and the prize pool goes up.

I'm pretty sure PS sent 1500 players and FT had 500+. So almost 25% of this year's field was from 2 of the bigger online sites.

There is always a threshold that can be crossed where it's too much. Look to the $50K HORSE event. It only had 150 some players. Very few sites sent anyone.

It will be interesting to see. Having played with Robert Williamson III in the Stud H/L event and to hear him talk (since he's on the Players Advisory Board) it sounds like they will be recommending alot of changes for 2007.

the commercials for next years tournament says "open to everyone", so that kind of points to the notion that they want more players. i bet the buy-in will stay the same. i personally don't play in any tournament with a buy-in less than $50k, so it would be a waste of my time anyway lol

Yeah, I haven't heard that either and I read every Card Player cover to cover. Surely they would have mentioned it.

In a way I think it would be better to have a $25,000 buy-in for the main event to give the pros a better shot at winning the championship instead of some Hollywood azzhole like Jamie Gold, but on the other hand, I'd love to play in it myself one day.

I will be speaking to the person who told me this in the week, and I will find out his source, I do believe him, not only cuz he told me, but its the way the wsop is going. theres profit to be made here, I dont think raising the fee will effect the numbers, I think there will still be the same amount of people, more money will be made from sattelites/wsop qualifiers etc. I personelly dont think it will go to 25 k, but I would expect them to raise it eitehr next year or the year after. Obviously the pros would prefere it going to 25,better players would be there, it would better to watch, and for us who want to play in it, it makes it more challenging for us to get in, which will make that gold braclet so much better

I have heard in the past that they have considered a cap for the number of players. If it keps growing the way it has in recent years, the 2010 main event would feature a week-long day one! But, I think common sense says the pros would love to see a higher buy-in, as has been stated by others already.
