The worst time to play poker???

Hi all.

I would be interested in your resonse to this so here goes.

After playing poker for about 18 months for me the worst time to play poker is when you are tired.

Over the past week I have been done in due to work commitments and I have noticed that my poker results - when I have been able to play, have suffered.

I think it is down to concentration. I know when I played in the CC game last night after a few hands I just could not be bothered playing because I was too tired, and therefore I was betting with silly hands, looking for that miracle catch.

What do you guys think?

Feeling tired is definately not a good time to start playing or if you are feeling off colour or out of sorts.

I often find though strangely if you have been playing in a long game and have 'become' tired as long as you are 'in the zone' you dont feel it until after the game has finished (or knocked out ).

Remember the reason you feel tired is because it is the bodies way of telling you it wants to rest.

That's funny! I can relate too... I stopped playing while drinking after some tough lessons though. Now I never drink when playing. Good rule to stick to if your a serious player. A buddy and I refer to these sessions and "Drunken Holdem." I would ask him how he did the other night and all he'd say is "Drunken Holdem Eric... Drunken Holdem" and I knew right there it was big BB loss.

Other than that, being tired, or being cranky is bad for me. When I notice myself starting to get tired I begin to real in the line. When I start to get cranky over beats or whatever I just leave.

Drunk, Sleepy, Hungry, Thirsty or even when you have to use the John are bad times to play. Believe me I have tried them all and they are all bad times to play. :*)

When you are tired don't play. It's hard to use good judgement. If you do, you are asking for trouble.

I'd agree about not playing while you're tired or drunk....so I probably shouldn't be playing at the moment.

playing poker when your tired is definately not the best time to play poker becuase your tired and your choice of hands to play are much looser than normal because you really dont care if you are knocked out....well thats my opinion on the topic

It`s definitely -EV to play online when tired. I find that, if I am feeling sleepy, the rhythmic and repetitive nature of the dealing and betting makes me feel even more like dozing off, and that is when one can easily make a foolish error.

On the other hand, if other players are tired, you can turn this to your advantage. Whenever I reach the final table of an MTT, I make a point (as soon as I am folded and not playing for a few moments) of splashing my face with water, pacing around, and even doing a few exercises behind my chair. I deliberately try to sharpen up and re-energise myself. I know that all the players will have been sitting in their chairs for hours and it is very likely that some, at least, will be dozy. So, I try to give myself an edge.

re: The worst time to play poker???

The worst time to play is on the weekends. I know that's when the fish come out, but they suck out on me so much.

Can releate to the drinking issue, cant make clear choices when drunk. And playing tired is the worse of them all, I played a FT wsop freeroll and made it to the final table, I was so tired I could barley keep my eyes open, so as upset as I was to just throw the game, what can you do when you swaying from side to side just to stay awake, that has happened to me a couple of times, thats why I try and not play tired either.

On a good note if you do want to play drunk cause that is fun too, do the freerolls, that way you can party poker get drunk and still not loose any money, but hey you might get lucky and make a buck or two.

Have you seen Paradise lately, Ian ?

They joined the Boss Media network a couple of weeks ago. They have kept something like their old colour scheme, but in every other respect they have become a boring identikit European poker room.

Shame, as you say, their old software had a certain eccentric charm.
