No, you don't have to be a league member to join, I don't think. It's called an "open house" for that reason. Anyone can come and play and win money on this one. Normally, the minimum to play with WPL is, I think, $12 per year.

this isnt really a traditional freeroll

from my understanding from the site, it seems you have to be a member to play in it. Although the membership is really cheap, once you have to pay, its essentially no longer a freeroll.

its only a freeroll for people who are already members off the site

leftlou how do you like that site? I looked at it I might sign up but do you have to put down a deposit? I didnt see that part.

I don't believe there is any charge for the "open house" freeroll. Normally you are correct, but not for this one.

If you enjoy and want to play more, you pay the fee to join for a year and get a whole bunch of games at check n raise with a nice group of folks.

Sorry if this was unclear - The freeroll will be at checknraise.com
Checknraise has no software to download, but it takes a little while to get it going the first time. When it's up, go to the tournaments tab and then to the private section. On 4/7 at 10:05 you will see there is a WPL open house freeroll scheduled. Normally you would have to be a paying member to play in one of their games, but this one is free to anyone to join.
Check and raise also hase several freerolls every day.
