the word "donkey" im not sure if im the only one who feels this way but, does anybody ele think this word is stupid? i mean seriously why would you create a word for a bad poker player? theres no words for bad football or basketball players....they just suck. Come on people , if someones a bad player then tell em they suck, dont call em a "donk"...just makes u look like a poker dork.

i hate when people use the word DONK!! ... i agree completely to OP .. like it sounds so retarded like if we are going to degrade the players that suck we should atleast come up with a name that actually is somewhat offensive and quite possibly hurt the feelings of the player

Definition: If a poker player is called a 'donkey,' he's a bad player who makes blatantly bad poker plays. A weak player. Donkey is also shortened to "donk" by many players to announce that they're playing badly or planning to, as in "I'm going to donk it up tonight." Also Known As: fish, pigeons Examples: Last time I was at the card room, I got a table full of donkeys -- no one knew how to play at all. If the shoe fits. lol

I agree with that this is a stupid word and i hate when some one uses it all the time because they get beat by a better hand. I dont think people know how to use it. Its not when you get sucked out on it is when a terrible hand is played preflop and they when. Then call the a donk if you are a dork like that

re: the word "donkey" poker I'm kinda sick of the term too. Besides the fact that it is stupid to call bad players anything, most people label anyone who makes a call or bet that they don't like a donkey. Sometimes these are good poker players making fair calls, playing the odds, or gambling like your supposed to do. It's kind of annoying to hear it all the time when someone loses a hand. . .hehe.

All sports seem to have their own terms. How about golf and the word hacker or Sally. In Hockey if your the Toronto goalie your a Seive. And in Canada if your a liberal your have your own term to deal with. Dion, now there's a Donkey with a capital D.

well whatever term u use for a bad player... one thing i DON'T agree with is telling them... I mean, why shame or embarass a bad player... tell them we played and hope that you always play against them... their one big lucky hand with J5 suited is never going to make more than the amount they lose playing this way. I honestly hate to see someone berate a bad player... you might make the player leave the table.. no more fish money or that player might actually go away and learn to play better poker... either way its a loss. Best thing... encourage them to keep playing the way they are. If everyone played good poker... it would be a very difficult game to make money from even for the very best.

I'm guilty of calling people donks in the case that: a. Its a tournament. b. This guy just knocked me out of it. c. He hit a 4 outter (Or less) d. He didnt have any right to be in the pot when he hit. e. I've invested more than two hours of my life in this tournament. f. They brag in any way, or some other idiot tells them what a "VNH!" it was. (This drives me nuts.) I know that I shouldnt and I try to refrain... but its better calling them a donk than some of the things I'm thinking of calling them.

I get sick of a player berating another because of a bad beat. Yes, the donk won, but the loser won't let up, like they're some kind of pro, in this freeroll, lol. I usually tell them, if you're so good at poker you should know, a good fisherman doesn't scare away the fish. I use the word a lot, but not about a player that I'm playing with, only in relating a story. I hope I get to play with many, because otherwise, I'm the donk at the table, lol. Good Luck, Tom

re: the word "donkey" poker It is a stupid term used by stupid players that get outplayed in a hand.Granted there are many times when a player wins a hand that they had no business being in but those are the type of people I want to be surrounded by at any table. It is used way more online than in live games in my experience.I have been called a "donk" so many times online it is amazing.I am 6'-5" and almost 300 lbs. and have never once been called anything but my name or "sir" at a live game lol.It is simply foolish to berate poor players at any time if you want to make money at poker. Some people just don't seem to understand that. Holdem.
